People have already gotten offended by the female protagonist when it got leaked a few months prior. Anything that isn’t a cisgender straight white able-bodied male is considered “too woke” for them.

I know it is pointless arguing with a centrist. But how is promoting diverse characters an agenda. Why is it only if the characters isn’t part of the usual “status quo” that it is considered as such.

True, the dominant agenda still remains making white, west European or Anglo men out to be heroes and saviors (the opposite of what they usually are IRL).

There’s definitely a spate of really obnoxious takes (pandering) by Disney and other mainstream, white-owned media to try to score diversity brownie points, that said. I’d hesitate to call it an agenda, so much as it is just liberals trying to pretend their shit don’t stink, and giving lip service to diversity with little substance if any behind what they do as usual.

Thats an agenda. If your goal was to promote only men thats also an agenda. If youre into feet and make foot porn, youre pushing a foot agenda. This isnt about status quo.

There isn’t widespread hate for female leads.

Stop. Who are you to redefine “widespread” and “hate” for us? Youre not gonna gloss over that statement and move on, no sir. You’re gonna need to flesh this thought out for us, cuz it sounds like an opinion, and you stated it as fact. It’s the lynchpin of your argument so…

There isnt. Ive talked to white nationals, gamer incels, and the most liberal guys and they all like female leads. If you think hating female leads is normal they youve been misinformed. It is more complex than “these people are evil, they hate woman”.

Hoo boy. I don’t want to seem like I’m tearing you down for having a different opinion, but you understand i can’t take a random experience youve had, talking to someone ive never met as evidence you are correct, right?

Your argument here is what’s known as an informal fallacy, “anecdotal evidence”.

Those people you talked to have opinions, and what they provided you was their opinion. The fact they agree with you doesn’t make your position stronger.

Please think on this. if your goal is to debate people with quality arguments then you must.

I agree that my experience is amecdotal.

I’m not asking you to take my word as fact or evidence, but instead encourage you to talk to people all across the US and see if the theory matches the real world. I think it is not helpful to say “Gamers hate woman” or “the right hates woman”. It’s a simplification that encourages bias rallying. I don’t think we can solve our problems without the support of those we disagree with, and better understanding those groups helps.

I’ve met a lot of men and woman who are sexist and racist and everything bad under the sun, but there are just as many grey people in the middle as there are in the edges. Thats my own claim, and you shouldnt take my word for it and instead talk to others yourself.

Considering GTA’s historical treatment of women in their older games, I’ll still hold my breath to see how the characters are written. Although gamers seething is always nice, I’m always pessimistic with the AAA games industry.

I’ve really wondered what 6 will look like given how abhorrent female representation is in these games. It’ll likely still have its cringey moments, but the trailer looks pretty encouraging.

trailer looked good but my interest kinda dropped when it said 2025. when it’s that far away my brain is just like “well there’s no reason to care about this for another year or more, then” because you know they’re just gonna drip feed you the smallest bit of info at a glacial pace until then.

same thing happened when Bethesda announced ES6. I hate when these companies announce projects super early. I wish more games would follow the Fallout 4 route where they announced it in the summer and it released like 4 or 5 months later.

For real. If a game gets announced with a release date that is more than 6 months in the future chances are very high that by the time the game comes out I will no longer have an interest in playing it (unless it turns out to be really really good). I personally don’t care about any teasers/hints that marketing drops every now and then up until the release and I don’t follow any influencers/shills who make long essays about the latest teaser so most game releases just fly over my head at that point.

i found it to be immersion breaking and a little more than distracting. I guess it helps make the game bigger and provides unique storytelling angles but I still prefer a more complex singular storyline where I don’t have to context switch unexpectedly often

Makes sense, though at the same time it allows for a more multifaceted story like in a book that follow different characters in different chapters. Plus it gave people different choices for which main character they wanted to be.

GTA is a notable blank spot in my gaming history, just never interested me much. I could have sworn that earlier games in the franchise had character creators though, were they actually just set male main characters in every one prior?

The only time you could make your character was in the online mode for gta v. You might be thinking of Saints Row.

The first game had eight characters to choose from, with four being female, but nobody gives one or two much thought. Three and on had single main characters, V had the player swapping between three characters as a gameplay/plot mechanic, and V’s online component lets you roll you own.

i never though rockstar would have to balls to actually have a female protagonist

which is funny when you consider how very controversial their whole image used to be
