Recent unscripted video from Cody Reeder of Cody’sLab.
I don’t agree with several of his points, but he raises some interesting issues nonetheless.
Any thoughts on the optimal ways to balance human space exploration with planetary protection?
Can we send that Tesla guy to Mars? He wants to go and I’m really fucking tired of hearing about him.
Maybe we can send his running mate too, I’m pretty getting tied of the orange man too.
War: as long as we all live on earth we are very unlikely to destroy the planet in a war.
As soon as we have a second functional planet… Destroying the earth is now a valid military strategy
A “functional” independent civilization on Mars is a long way (millennia) off, and not really relevant to the topic of the video. Cody is advocating for a ban on all human Mars missions, even short term research missions. I’m not sure that this is feasible, reasonable, or wise.
Hey, you just described the whole plot of Gundam!
I hope not :'(
Hardly news.
We are effectively an earth limited mammal.
When we go into space, it will be as data.
Exactly. There is so much cope out there.
Nah, I feel we should let all the billionaires go to Mars. BAI!
I would encourage the use of a stronger term than “let”. The sooner that they can be forced to bootstrap themselves up there en mass, the better. And if their crappy tech fails in them just outside of warranty (space suit warranty limited to Earth orbit, do not expose to harsh conditions/full vacuum/human urine/martian dust. Glass cover not included), well too bad.
Ktksbaï
If they run out of food out there, they could eat the rich.
planetary protection is a joke
Even as fucked as it is, Earth is the cheapest planet in the universe to terraform for human habitation.
Why do you think so? I mean the office at NASA exists with a publicly available description of what it does, do you disagree with having someone be there to oversee adherence to the rules and be responsible for them being adhered to?
