Can you tell me why I was game banned? “No.”

Many companies take this approach and it always leaves me feeling unsettled. How can we have confidence in moderation that isn’t transparent?

TF2 is not the kind of game where we should be taking compromises with botters as the developers seem to be withdrawing from the project entirely. So it’s best the keep the place tidy and leave the community with the tools to moderate itself.

I’ve been erroneously banned from CS2 twice, with no reason given. Both times I’ve been unbanned after appealing. I have no doubt if I were active on t2 they would have banned me. This only happened once I started using linux too, particularly when I started using dev versions of software.

I strongly doubt they’ve only gotten bots on this

        Edit: clarity

Sounds like if they did mess up, they’d be happy to unban if you’re an example to follow.

You are correct. Reading through it does seem like they don’t want to do any appeals.

I guess, I don’t really blame them. The game is how old now? How likely is it that a real person was using a modified version of TF2 that explicitly didn’t give them an advantage, and was banned?

Guess only thing to do is wait and see just how many people were banned, however from the sounds of it, it was desperately needed and now a significant amount more people can actually enjoy the game.

I think there’s a large crossover of stolen accounts and accounts that are used for botting. Furthermore, there’s basically nothing (that I’m aware of) stopping you from making a bajillion gmail accounts and I’m sure the process could be fairly simply automated.

A user can use temporary phone numbers to generate at least several accounts over at least a handful of countries. These tools are made for privacy purposes but where there’s privacy, there’s also usually someone abusing it… which usually leads to ruining it for the rest of us.

Gmail accounts need a phone number nowadays (at least when connecting from Europe). I dunno how it is in other countries. Here SIM cards can be bought for a few €, but making millions of bot accounts would add up. But maybe there are VOIP services that allow creating numbers easily.
