Completely agree. Imo it contributes a lot to a reddit-like hivemind thinking where a big upvote number makes you engage with a comment/post a lot less critically, since you’re already facing social pressure to agree with something just from glancing at the upvote number before even reading any of the contents of the post. And on the opposite end, a shitty take with lots of upvotes can feel like the community piling on you. I don’t think turning them off undermines “the essence” of this site at all - I’ve had them turned off on the user end for ages and it doesn’t make this site any less enjoyable or useable - in fact I would argue it does exactly the opposite.

Hmm, you could go with the passive option of not getting it cut until it grows a little, and if you feel like you’re missing the shorter hair then you’ll know what to do!
I think it’s more about having more people on the team so there’s more of a chance that someone’s around to catch nasty bs and nip it in the bud before it does much harm.

Ahh, I feel ya :c I’m doing just a little better recently, but it’s been enough to where I’m constantly thinking “wow, it’s fucking bullshit that it has taken me this long to get here”. Been spending a lotta time grieving all the ways things could have been better…

I guess it just feels a bit like a chronological xitter feed, but way better. And it’s comfy to hang out in them and chat to people. I guess it’s more for downtime, if I was in reading theory mode I might be on news mega, but probably not on hb at all haha. I do venture outside the megas too, but they’re the first thing I usually check
