“Thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, we’re a nation forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas, and always on the cutting edge, always leading the world to the next frontier. This quality is vital to our future as a nation. If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost.”

I mean… It’s good for the fucking economy and national security. The whole, growing economy thing… I’ve never played a 4x game and thought… better stop producing food and encouraging population growth before I have too much production capabilities and the resources to trade for diplomatic power. (This isn’t reddit but mandatory disclaimer hoi4 and Stellaris antixenos are a vocal minority 😬😅)

First they came for the immigrants

And I did not speak out

Because I was not an immigrant

Then they came for the trans people

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trans person

Then they came for the trades unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trades unionist

Then they came for the non-Christians

And I did not speak out

Because I was a Christian on paper

    Then they came for me

And there was no one left

    To speak out for me

    #DOES THIS SURPRISE ANYONE?!

It was never about ‘criminals.’ It was about creating an ‘other’ underclass that can’t fight back, and persecuting them to draw attention and focus away from the real problems.

I think there’s quite a few brown people in America surprised by this. I’m not sure how that’s possible but it is the reality of the level of political engagement we’re dealing with in this country.

draw attention and focus away from the real problems

…and the additional ones intentionally created just so a few morons can get even more power.

“I’ve always said, we might be from the same country, but we are 100 percent in agreement that if someone harms someone that person should leave,” Marian said in Spanish. “But I never made that comment thinking it could happen to me and my family.”

    So frustrating

It doesn’t fucking matter. Illegal or legal, they do not deserve to be sent to Gitmo. Nobody deserves to be sent there.

Or are you somehow arguing that concentration camps are fine, for some people. Then let’s hope you don’t belong to a group that becomes the other in the future.

And apparently they also arrest legal immigrants now. So eh… well done, I guess.

You know they’re being put in Gitmo, right? The place where the worst of the worst terrorists are supposed to go? You’re okay with that? That’s the level of crime you think they’ve committed?

Carlos was in the US legally. He followed the rules, entering the US under a government asylum program.

“He came to the U.S. from Venezuela in November through CBP One, a mobile app created by the federal government used by asylum seekers to schedule an appointment in the U.S.-Mexico border. Migrants who secured an appointment were allowed in the country temporarily while they await their immigration hearing.”

They never said they wouldn’t come for migrants without criminal records; they only said that they’d target them first. So if they come across other migrants in their targeted search for those with criminal records, they still consider those to be valid arrests.
