Suella Braverman has suggested that the UK could become “the first Islamist nation with nuclear weapons”.

The former home secretary said Britain could “fall into the hands of Muslim fundamentalism” and become like Iran.

She made the incendiary comments in a speech to the right-wing Heritage Foundation think-tank in Washington.

Braverman said: “Vice-president JD Vance said at the National Conservatism conference, at which I also spoke in the summer, that the UK was going to be the first Islamist nation with nuclear weapons. I don’t think he was joking.

“Is it an impossibility that 20 years from now it will be the UK, not China or Russia, that will emerge as the greatest strategic threat to the USA?

“Born out of a broken relationship and weak leadership. What happens if the UK falls into the hands of Muslim fundamentalism, our legal system gets substituted for Sharia Law and our nuclear capabilities vest in a regime not too dissimilar to that of Iran today?

“Regardless of whether one thinks that is a realistic outcome, which I do not, should we not have the courage to ask these questions?”

How exactly is this supposedly going to happen? Given how massively under represented Muslims are in parliament, how exactly are they going to gain control.

But equally racialised minorities are still the people that bare the brunt of the systematic violence of Capitalism and the state repression. In this instance as an example this is targeted at Muslims, but in the racialised sense any person of MENA or Indian subcontinent ethnic origin (or who looks like it).

She’s not liberal in any sense of the word, including the modern American misframing of liberalism.

She’s a racist, disability hating piece of shit.

Liberalism as a political project was first and foremost a way to justify american slave ownership.

Domenico Losurdo’s “Liberalism: A Counter History” covers the history of the ideology well.

This feels like you fail to even have a basic grasp of the words you use.

            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism

Its always been said that Americans are generally pretty poor in their understanding of politics. They don’t understand socialism, they don’t understand the difference between socialism and communism, and they don’t understand what a liberal is, getting it confused with communism and fascism depending on the day of the week.

Liberalism was used as the ideology to chop off rich peoples heads in France. Liberalism was used as the reason to remove royalty from the head of state in Britain.

NEOLIBERAL is a form of conservative fiscal liberalism to justify privatisation and deregulation.

            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoliberalism

Suella Braverman is simply a sack of shit.

Born out of a broken relationship and weak leadership. What happens if the UK falls into the hands of Muslim fundamentalism, our legal system gets substituted for Sharia Law and our nuclear capabilities vest in a regime not too dissimilar to that of Iran today?

Thats a lot of stretching, and absolutely nothing to do woth fucking liberalism. It’s simply moronic.

I appreciate that books are a bit harder to read than Wikipedia pages, but I really do recommend it.

I’ll be less glib: liberalism was used to justify French slave ownership too. It also has been the justification for global interventionist policy by the imperial core. “Bringing liberal democracy to dictatorships.”

Islamic yes, Islamist I don’t think so. That usually refers to a much more fundamentalist ideology. That said, Pakistan did test its first nukes under the dictatorship in the 80s, and while I don’t know much about that period it does at a surface level look like it could probably be described as an Islamist period for Pakistan. So maybe there was an Islamist nuclear power and isn’t anymore?

Whoops, you are right, i don’t know much about pakistanis separation of politics and religion today … I went with the word used in the title of the post without considering it’s exact meaning(s), which are now :

        https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Islamist
        Islamist (plural Islamists)
        1- (now rare) A Muslim. [from 19th c.]
2- A scholastic Muslim who specializes in Muslim academics. [from 1910s]
3- A Muslim who espouses Islamic fundamentalist beliefs. [from 1980s]

interestingly, it should be easy to say that USA has now become a Christianistic Christianist country.

Given the pretty recent struggles with Catholics getting into positions of power in Parliament, you’d think she’d know better. Although, to be fair, the Catholics have had a go at blowing up the Houses of Parliament.
