The White House defended the firing of Fong and the other inspectors general, saying “these rogue, partisan bureaucrats… have been relieved of their duties in order to make room for qualified individuals who will uphold the rule of law and protect Democracy.”

    The doublespeak is rampant

They fucking talk like cartoon villains. All the verbiage in his executive orders is like this too. How did they ever get any traction? I hate this country.

Rogue partisan bureaucrat who has been doing her job for 20+ years. Not the rogue partisan administration that has been in office for a week and is trying to set everything on fire without any oversight from these 20 year professionals.

How did they ever get any traction

First Past The Post voting has limited the competition in our elections, making both mainstream political parties incredibly soft and filled with weak individuals. This is why the republicans were so easily bought by Russia, and why the democrats couldn’t find a way to beat a circus full of clowns.

States control how they vote. We don’t need a miracle from congress, we can change how we vote and open our elections to 3rd parties with no chance for a spoiler effect. Some states have already made this much needed reform.

Alaska recently had a referendum to see if they wanted to switch back to FPTP from Ranked Choice voting and it didn’t pass. Republicans were bitter that Sarah Palin lost to a more moderate conservative because of Ranked Choice voting, and tried to get rid of it. The people of Alaska have spoken. They want nothing to do with First Past The Post voting.

Republicans controlled states are passing laws to protect FPTP voting. Why are blue states using the voting system republicans prefer? Why are democrats saying no to these easy extra votes from increased voter turnout?

Believe in democracy, work to replace FPTP voting in your state today!

Maybe not the best reason but I don’t see how this didn’t contribute to the problem. If you’re not full on MAGA you’re basically labeled a leftist. If you’re not progressive you’re a Nazi enabler. We’re all more complex than that but we get boiled down to “what our party believes in”. Even though some parties are fake opposition it’s more expensive and inefficient to fund multiple parties and party leaders and keep up the facade of independence. It’s not a cure but it insulates our system slightly from centralized corruption.

Getting money out of politics (or at least campaigns) altogether would be the biggest positive change we could make.

We will give you democracy by using authoritarian methods.

The US has been doing this to the world for a hundred years … why is everyone surprised that it’s happening in America now

Good. Don’t do the fascists’ job for them. Be like Phyllis Fong and the others in the government who are resisting this. Every second they are forced to force people out and defend their policies and actions is a second they aren’t acting against vulnerable people.

Good for her. I much rather eat nothing for a few days than get some pandemic disease that will kill me painfully.
