seriously though he just comes in the doorway and just like looks at me for like even up to like a minute, and if I say anything at all, even trying to beckon him, he just immediately turns around and leaves. is this documented behavior or is this like a bug or something

the thing is, like, he probably doesn’t? unless he’s doing something extremely convoluted. it’s what I assumed initially, but the second I move or speak he just pivots and leaves and goes back to chilling downstairs–aka his default state.
Could be they’re just checking in on you. My pup hates not having the entire pack within sight/earshot
I don’t know your dog, but I’ve had pets do shit like this when they want me to follow them down to some specific place where they want me to hang out with them or give them access to… like a couch or snacks or outside time.
I’m only a soft touch like 30% of the time, so mostly I don’t, and they wander off when it’s obvious I’m not on board.
