I’m gonna rant for a second here if that’s alright.
FUCK being mixed handed. I’m not right or left handed but I’m not ambidextrous either. I’m what’s called cross dominant and it’s a huge pain in the ass all the time.
Cross dominance is when you don’t use one hand for everything but can’t use both hands for everything. I write with my left hand but throw with my right. I eat with my left hand but punch with my right. That’s not the main issue though. The main issue is I cannot use both my hands at the same time without them running into each other because they both have different instincts. If I were to try to use both hands to put something together I’m likely to end up yeeting whatever it is across the room because my hands got confused and one did the right thing while the other had a fuckin stroke and thought that the necessary thing to do is just fully extend and smack whatever I’m working on.
It’s a small thing that I generally don’t bring up because it’s not that big of a deal and I’ve adapted to only using one hand at a time but it’s still infuriating.

I don’t know. Sounds kind of cool to be able to eat and punch someone at the same time.
I’d end up hitting them with the food and punching myself in the face.

That’s just one thing on the list of many that make me one of the weirdest guys in the room at all times.

It was always a challenge for me in gym class because they’d detail “here’s how to swing if you’re left handed. Here’s how to swing if you’re right handed. Now remember no practice swings!” And I’d just have to try it both ways to see which way I do slightly less badly with while classmates jeer about “weren’t you paying attention, you only swing that way if you’re left handed! Why are you switching hands?!”
That’s not “cross-dominant”, you are simply a lefty who has adapted to living in a right-handed world, just like me. I can’t use a computer mouse or fire a gun left-handed, but only because they rarely made these things for left-handed people when I was growing up, so Ive only ever used then with my right hand and struggle to switch sides.
That said, my aim with a mouse and a gun are awful because I’m not right-handed. I have a feeling that I would do a lot better with these devices if I was more accommodated in my childhood.
Everyone thought I was left handed until I started playing baseball. I couldn’t swing the bat right or throw the ball at all. It just felt and looked completely unnatural. Then a coach suggested throwing with my right hand and it was clearly obvious my body was fuckin weird
Just so anyone that had to suffer through this knows, the company that makes them, that you have to order them through, always makes sure to remind buyers that they will likely need at least 10% left handed ones too. Because, of course, they made left-handed ones. If your school didn’t have left-handed ones or didn’t have enough, that was a choice they made.
A stupid design in that case too, though. Make people need to sit in specific seats for their handedness… Smort

Wtf are those even good for? My pencil case from back in the day alone would take up like a third of the while thing. Does an A4 even fit on it?
The “desk” above looks like something out of an auditorium/lecture hall some of the schools I’ve attended had. It would be built into the fixed stadium seating and fold out. A more typical classroom thing would either be separate chairs and desks, or the “chair with a built-in desk that has a right-side armrest” kind of thing.

I had to take a physics exam in a room with these desks. The exam was on that super long paper too. After tearing off the formula sheet and setting that on your lap, trying to work out the problems and keep all your stuff organized was impossible. After hearing the 3rd calculator fall on the floor less than 2 minutes into the exam I just had to laugh out loud at the absurdity of the whole situation.
There were left handed desks too
If your school bought any of them lol I remember my high school having desks like these, and they had purchased A single left handed one and it was the only one in the school. Not very helpful if you didn’t have a class in the room where this only desk existed in the school

At my school, there were obviously no left handed desks purchased, one which I guess had been broken was hastily remade into a left handed desk, the welds on the tubes were pretty obvious as were the original screw holes in what was now the top surface of the desk.
Oh yeah it’s been so long since I’ve been in school I forgot about that. The right handed desks were usable but kind of a pain.
Literal pain sometimes. Sitting twisted so you could write with your left hand was horrible posture.
I usually had my textbook open on the desktop and I wrote on a clipboard on my knee.
I never had an issue using right handed desks as a lefty. Or most other right handed things now that I think about it.
Those are a thing in some schools? I’m used to have actual tables, there it doesn’t matter which hand you use and you can open more than half a book.
When I was in school it varied by classroom. Some classrooms were all desks like that (some with a larger writing surface, some with that useless one) some had the kind of desk you can store stuff inside (some with attached chair and some without), some just had tables and chairs. Oh and the chairs were a weird mix too. There was one variant that had a lower lumbar support that as a very boney and skinny person just pressed straight into a couple of vertibrae in my spine and was painful to sit in for more than 30 seconds
But without fail, any classroom that had these desks including a left handed desk or two would have it in the furthest back corner so it was always taken up by a right hander who would try to disappear in the back, not participate or take notes and would refuse to trade desks with you
Honestly i used a left handed desk as a right handed person once and it was fine.
Probably partly because the writing system is oriented for right-handers. You’d have the entire section of the desk under the page providing support whereas for a left hander in a right-handed desk (especially the ones with comically small writing surfaces) your hand is literally hanging off the edge, especially when writing a bulleted list or shorthand notes. We also have to raise our writing hands a bit when writing to avoid smearing which further hurts ergonomics
