hi all - i have this sort of half-formed idea about how a vegan DIY community like this is a lot like a solarpunk DIY ethos - but anyway, what are you working on at the moment? for me, my wife and i are going to tear down drywall and do some mold remediation. destruction is easier than creation, as they say; so we’ll hire someone to re-hang the drywall once we’re done.

otherwise since it’s winter not much to report on the doing stuff front. we finished our privacy fence in the backyard just before the weather turned here, so we’ve got that done. we were going to do a flooring project in our den, but as prep work for that project was what led us to find the mold, it’s scrapped for the time being.

    1. Retooling some grow spaces.

I decided I need more vertical space in some of my racks which means moving things around. Not the most complicated project but it’s something I have to plan out before starting so I don’t end up moving and removing things a million times. It’s also a good opportunity to do some deep cleaning that I don’t reeeeeeeally feel like doing.

    1. Continuing backyard renovations.

Last week was clearing brush and burning shrubs, this week is moving around stuff that isn’t too heavy or awkward so the dogs have more space to run and play. I’m also covering some low areas that are turning into mud holes with pine straw to keep it from getting worse. Maybe some grass will sprout up through it in the spring.

    1. Cleaning neglected spaces around the house.

I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of dust in our home and cleaning the spots that are easy to forget or neglect. We have tons of ceiling fans that like to collect dust and I find cleaning them to be miserable on my upper body no matter what I use. I’ve tried various dusters, vacuuming, vacuum attachments, even taking the blades off and reattaching them. For some people this might be quick and easy, for me it’s a project and a chore I detest. I’m also doing things like changing filters and checking the heating system since temps have been getting low enough to make the heat a temptation.

Nothing major since I’m supposed to be taking it easy but enough that I still feel overwhelmed about it all sometimes. The colder temps make my joints feel terrible but I have to do more than sit around all day!
