hi all - i have this sort of half-formed idea about how a vegan DIY community like this is a lot like a solarpunk DIY ethos - but anyway, what are you working on at the moment? for me, my wife and i are going to tear down drywall and do some mold remediation. destruction is easier than creation, as they say; so we’ll hire someone to re-hang the drywall once we’re done.

otherwise since it’s winter not much to report on the doing stuff front. we finished our privacy fence in the backyard just before the weather turned here, so we’ve got that done. we were going to do a flooring project in our den, but as prep work for that project was what led us to find the mold, it’s scrapped for the time being.

Costing out a solar hydro setup for mostly brassicas which I enjoy eating but resent growing due to their low yield, pest magnetism, and soil ravaging effects. Solar panel and battery claims from chinese online retails are relatively exaggerated, which makes speccing harder. So I’m considering wholesale jinko 40 V monocrystallines like on my roof (extremely reputable chinese manufacturer but designed for powering houses) but that’s more costly, requires more complex electronics, and needs better alignment with the sun vs polycrystal. Also wont work well on cloudy days.

If anyone knows a supplier of 12V polycrystalines that are affordable and supply datasheets (instead of hilariously large wattages) please let me know.

Website launches on DEC 21, flat out till then. Afterwards I want to paint the inside of my house.

I love bright colours, once we rented a place with turquoise walls, blue rose carpets, different chandeliers in every room. I adored it, but everyone made fun of it. I want to do stuff like azure kitchen/dining (dark brown floors, exposed brick, trimmings), pinky sandstone lounge, green rec room, and green with gold stippling bedroom. I’m worried I have no taste and everyone will just be uncomfortable when they come round though? I guess I’m looking for permission to just try something that’ll make me smile every morning.

you don’t need permission from me, but i offer it anyway! we have done bright colors in our home. our kitchen is green with patterned wallpaper, our dining room is orange (like, Denver Broncos orange, which wasn’t the reasoning but is the comparison i get all the time), our living room is adobe colored and my home office is egg yolk yellow. it’s your home, make it fun for you!
