I got an email about support ending in October 2025; isn’t this still extremely early? Aren’t they usually about two or three versions of windows down the line before they end updates?
I don’t want windows 11 (and no I don’t want Linux either, knock it off); this is ridiculous.
I haven’t got a virus since I stoped using the public library 14 years ago. Been using mostly Windows 7.
and? This isn’t “windows 7 is dogshit” it’s “they have long since stopped fixing critical security bugs in win 7”
if you actually haven’t gotten hacked you’ve both gotten lucky and haven’t been targeted. which is fine, good for you, but no reason to be proud of it. Also how did you get a virus from the library lol?
Library computers were notoriously full of malware. Everyone put their malware there. I got several kinds each time I used the USB on those.
That’s the only place I have gotten malware from.
I’m not saying windows 7 is not dogshit, it is. I’m saying concerns about hacking and malware are blown way out of proportion. A normal user will never be affected by those as long as you don’t go to the public library.
All this fear of hacking, and security concerns us just paranoia. A scam to push shittier oses and anti virus software nobody really needs.
This is the funniest tech support take I’ve ever heard. It’s not even close.
It’s not just paranoia, although it conveniently serves that purpose too. I work in the industry. AV is usually kinda dogshit and resembles malware in its own right, but security patches, unfortunately, are not fake.
Using an adblocker and having some good internet instincts about what not to click on will help a lot but malware isn’t just “that thing you get from public computers”, it circulates online far more widely than it circulates from infected USBs, in the modern day. This is not a well informed or thought out take, and is only based on your limited experience, not any actual investigation of the topic at hand.
people genuinely do lose money and internet accounts and their identifying info to this shit all the time, just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean its fake. Yes, most of the people who are super worried about it know just as little about the topic as you do, but they aren’t wrong to take precautions.
lol, lmao
