Uncertainty over President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for federal tax credits and loan programs supporting American electric vehicle manufacturing could stall Tennessee’s fast-growing electric vehicle and clean energy industries, analysts say.

I hate that it is a massive pick up truck being advertised as the EV of the future. What happened to small, light, effecient cars? Sure some people need trucks and they might as well be electric in the future but it seems practical options for effecient electric vehicles get very little production and promotion.

I agree, as someone who drives a compact 3-door.

Realistically speaking, the sooner we can get larger polluters buying EVs, the better. All those pavement princesses need to be replaced with low or no emission vehicles as soon as possible.

We could just change our culture and start making trucks work horses again instead of status symbols. Having every truck go electric helps a bit on emissions, but they are still dangerous to anyone outside of them, use massive tires, need massive parking spots, and continue car dependancy.

We can, but that will take time. We should be attempting to mitigate climate change from all possible avenues, not just the most ideal.

It will never be eco-friendly to drive 6000lbs of steel down a road to move one person and we should stop supporting the idea that it is possible because it is delaying the real impactful changes we could make

I’m not saying it’s eco-friendly. I’m saying it’s far less damaging to the environment to drive an electric truck than it is to drive one that runs on gasoline or diesel.

We can continue to address it culturally while they transition to less harmful vehicles. We’re not changing the behavior of an entire nation fast enough for that to be our only action.

Seriously. We have these $7500 tax credits on expensive luxury EVs, but you don’t get that level of support if you’re interested in a more modest vehicle.

Here’s an idea for a tax credit. How about a $2k tax credit for e-bikes? That will pay for the entire cost of a decent entry-level e-bike. E-bikes really are what is needed to make active transport approachable in the US’s sprawling suburbia. You could even sell it to people as, “get an e-bike. Use it on whatever trips you can. No risk to you.”
