According to its website, AWSN will be available in 65 countries and will be dedicated exclusively to women’s sports featuring some of the world’s largest sports leagues, such as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), and the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).

On a mission to increase representation while filling a gap in global broadcasting, Goldberg partnered with CommonSpirit and Jungo TV to co-found the network. Inspired by her childhood passion for sports, the entertainer says AWSN has been 16 years in the making.

@Megaman_EXE Maybe I didn’t explain myself well. Most enjoyers of sport prefer to watch the best athletes. This is nearly always men. That’s really the only reason that separate women’s leagues ever got created. Many major sports, MLB, NFL, NHL, etc. don’t actually have any particular requirements among gender, but the people who do want to see women participate have needed to create separate women’s leagues for hockey, football, etc. because women haven’t been able to compete at men’s levels. And I say it’s easy to understand because looking at numbers of ticket sales and television viewing make it pretty clear that far fewer people are interested in watching women’s sports.

Some claim that its about exposure and marketing and not a true preference of sports fans, but even in more equal playing fields, like Crickets’ “The Hundred” (English francise limited over Francise League) where every side has a women’s and men’s team and ever game is a double header in which both women and men play on the same date at the same location with the same ticket, 3 hours before the other, nearly half the audience doesn’t get there until near the men’s game starts (originally they actually had some times the men went first and sometimes the women went first and when men’s game where first the attendance during the women’s match was even worse). Similarly, the Olympics, which is fairly equally promoted, attendance at men’s competitions is much higher with only a few exceptions, such as gymnastics and figure skating. Some claim equestrienne is the best Olympic sport as it’s the only one where men and women compete as individual athletes directly against each other (of course others say it’s the worst claiming the horse not the athlete is the one doing all the work).
