Sanders should have president TWICE now, but he got betrayed by his party… He would have won the election in 2016

The tough thing is he would never have won a general election, and the Democrat party knew it. That’s part of why they shafted him. They still shouldn’t have done that though.

Why wouldn’t he have been able to win the general election?

Perhaps I have stars in my eyes, but I think he would have.

The man is a Socialist, and most people are afraid of Socialism. Things would need to get really really bad in America for Americans to want such drastic change.

Yep, I agree. Even tho I skew socialist (I’m a Conservative Socialist), you are right about Americans being loathe to adopt it or even accept the name. Most people, even here on Lemmy, see the term “socialist” as a pejorative.

Though since the election I am seeing more and more people being pissed about how the democratic party screwed them over and they are more open to third parties. So maybe the socialist parties here in the US may see an uptick.

Which is hilarious to me, because I got banned from .world (and other instances) because I proudly said I voted Socialist instead of Democrat or Republican. lol

That’s a circular argument. You’re saying he couldn’t be elected, despite his massive popularity, because he’s a socialist?

Now would the purple party put a socialist in power? No. Would the people? Yes.

If Bernie was the candidate in 2016, or even 2024, I in my heart truly believe he would have won.

You don’t know what a circular argument is 🤦🏾‍♂️

You’re saying he couldn’t be elected, despite his massive popularity, because he’s a socialist?

Who says he’s that popular outside of the Democratic party?

If Bernie was the candidate in 2016, or even 2024, I in my heart truly believe he would have won.

Aww, that’s cute. Who cares? 😂

Bernie would never win. I’d vote for him. I don’t agree with 99% if what he says as he’s an idiot but I like his passion. I’d actually feel good voting for Bernie. It’s been a long time I felt good voting for someone

Yeah the real problem is the incumbent political power structure. Voting is just a garnish after they have already decided everything. It’s a broken system. First past the post voting is crippling US politics

If only he did this in 2016 instead of grovelling at the corporate Dems feet and destroying all credibility he built up by trying to gaslight the left into voting for the opposite of his beliefs three elections in a row.

Between his behavior over the last few years and his spotty support of genocide, I don’t believe he means these words, he simply wants more money before he dies. I suspect another book release soon.

I like Bernie, but to your point, I wasn’t happy about how he accepted the Dems steamrolling him over.
