EDIT: Don’t vote on this poll if you don’t interact/lurk in this community somewhat regularly. This survey is for those people.
Hi everyone,
I made a survey to better gauge the demographics of this community. I don’t have any reason to, just doing it out of curiosity.
I’m glad that everyone felt free to talk about it in detail and have some good discussion on my previous post, but it made it hard to count all those comments up. Someone suggested that I do this to get more accurate results.
The poll ends on April 6th at 11pm. I’ll post the results when it’s over. You can also view the live results of the poll on the website.
Might make a future one for sexuality. Data is fun, what can I say.
What are your predictions for this poll?
Comment under here with your answer if it won’t allow you to vote. Keep it to the choices on the survey if you will.
Binary Trans woman :)
Binary trans woman 💖️
Cis men are heavily outnumbering even binary trans women right now…I think this leaked onto all
Or you may have more allies than you think.
I imagine that’s because the post can be seen by anyone, not just subscribers.
What really surprises me is how few binary transmen there are here. In my local community it’s roughly an even split.
I noticed the same thing from the original pie chart OP posted. Turns out there is research supporting the hypothesis that there are less people identifying as binary trans male overall.
Still really interested to see what the results of this poll will be, keeping in mind that the numbers may be influenced by non-subscribers and users from across the fediverse.
Edit: whoops, corrected “transmasculine” to “binary trans male” to avoid confusion.
I was under the impression that there were significantly more transmen than women worldwide.
I seem to know more transmasculine people and trans men than transfeminine people and trans women IRL, but online, in my experience, there’s always been way more trans women and transfeminine people than trans men and transmasculine people. AMABs regardless of gender or identity have always had the biggest hold on the Internet in my experience ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Seems like a definitive answer requires more research with higher sample size.
I’ve also noticed a difference in online exposure, and the difference in subscriber counts between FtM and MtF communities on Blåhaj Lemmy also suggest it’s real thing.
But there’s also the possibility that people don’t want to identify with the “trans” label. Since modern models of gender identity require it to be treated as a high-dimensional vector, the spectrum representation probably doesn’t cut it for a larger amount of people than we might be aware of.
No, that’s not quite right. The source I posted just showed binary trans men as lower. Transmasculine nonbinary was a lot higher.
Yup i m a cis man myself abd foynd it on général but I interact frequently with this community so I think it s ok
That’s fine
I think you are a Frenchman as well.
Oui
I think polls like this are susceptible to troll votes
a lot of people are on this instance solely for 196 and/or because of v*ush
What is vush
vaush is a problematic internet debate nerd that a lot of younger baby leftists latch on to.
He recommended this instance because 196 had a comm here iirc. His subreddit recommended it during the reddit/spez stuff.
196 also recommended blahaj.zone and they had a big vaush following in their userbase.
Why is vaush problematic? I’m out of the loop
He’s been known to have chaser-y tendencies, he’s been casually misogynistic and racist for the sake of winning “debates”, he’s been known to defend lowering the age of consent as well as the production of CSAM(child sexual abuse material), and most recently he’s been known to collect loli and zoophilic (not furry) hentai.
“problematic” was me being generous.
He’s the main reason 196 is so sectarian/“anti-tankie” as he has a lot of fans that post there.
Wow and here am I thinking it’s common sense to be anti tankie bc of 196
What’d you mean by this?
Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me. I’ll definitely avoid that guy’s channel.
He recommended this instance
He what?! When did that happen?
I’ll be honest I think I confused his subreddit with him.

The meme group made a com here (it has 331 subs but seems to be mostly dead at the moment)
196 also made a post with lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/196 mentioned

Reddit 196 has(had?) a lot of vaushites in their userbase and so that carried over here.
Ally from all here. Surprised by all the CIS myself.
Haha. All the cis men.
I wonder what they would all choose a year from now 😘
I questioned and came to the conclusion that I’m quite happy where I am.
My partner is nonbinary though, so I lurk in these sorts of spaces so I have at least a little bit of community awareness and understanding.
Well that makes me happy to know there are allies like you ❤️
Eh, I just browse ‘all’. Would I chose to be a woman if I had the chance at birth? Likely yes. But I quite like my ding-dong either way 😄
I am however quite jealous of women’s fashion, the big scarfs, big wooly jumpers, and flowy textiles.
Oh boy.
Only thing I will say is many trans woman also have the same sentiment about their original bits.
Nothing but love ✌️
Fwiw, the impression I get is that there are a goodly number of cis folks here, with the intent of being supportive and learning more. I know that’s why I’m here. It makes me happy when I see people that have a difficulty in their lives find a path to their own happiness.
I may not like every trans person I’ve ever met, but I love trans people.
Totally agree and my comment was completely in jest ❤️
Honestly it’s refreshing to see support. Especially on the Internet where there is so much hate for us…
So thanks for speaking up and letting us know you exist 🥰
I like to keep aware of trans issues, discourse and general stuff so I can be more supportive of my boyfriend. Also if I see someone struggling with something he conquered, I’d love to be able to pass on anything that can help.
I love him dearly and I kinda see me trying to keep aware of trans stuff in my social media circles similar to him keeping aware of Jewish stuff in his social media circles.
Also, queer solidarity. ✊️
That is so beautiful of you. Thank you for being such a great support for your boyfriend and the community as a whole :)
I wonder if that’s people seeing the poll link show up in global and then voting without reading the post text.
You’re right. When I first commented, it was a small majority so I figured they were all lurkers. Realized the poll leaked to all. Lol
Voted as cis man, have questioned but still haven’t really felt too out of place how I am. I did feel extremely distressed probably outside of how a normal person would react when I noticed I was getting male pattern baldness however
Does your emphasis of the word “male” imply that you are uncertain and still questioning? Just curious.
I didn’t think I was until that happened and I think the visceral reaction has made me keep questioning a bit
Nothing wrong with questioning. Everybody goes through it to some extent. Most people think for a short amount of time and realize they are happy with who they are and how they perceive themselves.
Others take longer to come to the same conclusion or even to realize something else about themselves.
Just wanted to mention that if you’re feeling any guilt or shame for questioning (I did in the beginning) please know that it’s perfectly normal and there are tons of people who are there to support you ❤️
So try and enjoy your journey where ever you end up. It means you are growing and building a better understanding of yourself ❤️
For a second there this community was 100% binary trans men, haha
Btw, there’s a deep annual survey at https://www.gendercensus.com . It’s not specifically about this community, and excludes purely cis-binary people, but has interesting data & trends if you’re into this sort of thing.
To clarify, that census specifically targets folk that aren’t on the binary. Cis binary and trans binary folk aren’t part of the target audience
That’s fantastic. When the new survey comes out please let us know.
You can add yourself to their mailing list to be notified.
Me:0 You:1
Very interesting, I will definitely look into that so I can do it when it happens.
A minor point but you only have 3 of the 5 nonbinary options. AFAB she/theys and AMAB he/theys aren’t represented in the options.
Sorry, didn’t mean to exclude. It won’t let me edit the survey now unfortunately.
I’d pick “amab he/they” if it were there, very happy just to tick the “non-binary” button, don’t feel excluded!
Prediction: there will a higher percentage of genderfluid people because i misread some people’s comments on the other one
Give us a gender slider!
Cis men aaaaaa
Same tbh
Yeah I was surprised too but being a cis man doesn’t preclude them from being gay or pan or whatever. I prefer to think of people as default allies until they prove themselves otherwise.
Further, I don’t think it’s a problem for cis het men to be here if it’s from a learning/allyship perspective.
nope.
Weird. I remember allowing VPN voting.
maybe that’s why only the cis are voting - anyone remotely questioning of gender identity online daren’t browse without a VPN.
Comment under my other comment and I’ll add you to the final count
What about adding the poll temporarily to the community resources section?
That way it is not just in everyone’s feed, and it takes a little more efforty to participate. I’m active here, but I found this community through cross instance bleedover.
I’m Agender and Isogender, definatey one of the more unique identities and gender modalities.
Can’t vote with a vpn sadly :(
Weird…I remember allowing VPN voting.
