  • I feel that playing a game that has micro transactions and not participating in them still contributes to the problem. In fact, it seems to me that these micro transaction heavy games NEED people that don’t buy the cosmetics. It creates a greater sense of superiority in the people that do buy them by creating a hard line between the “plebs” (f2p players) and themselves. Regardless of how it makes you personally feel, lots of others will succumb to the social pressure of wanting to feel superior to f2p “bots”/“noobs”/“plebs”. It’s the same reason that people buy shit that they don’t need in real life, the difference being that you don’t get to choose whether or not you participate in an economic system

  • This. Base 10 sucks because it’s harder to evenly divide. People give imperial a bunch of shit because the conversion factors are weird (and they really are), but have no problem with time units which are even more fucked up. We use a metric-like system for measuring units smaller than a second (milli, micro, nano seconds), but then there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, etc etc. The Gregorian calendar doesn’t even have a simple conversion between things like days and months! It depends on the fucking month!

Yeah I agree with a lot of what you’ve said here. I actually switched to db0 from lemm.ee as my primary instance when hexbear defederated from ee. I mostly lurk anyways but I do like seeing their posts from time to time, at the very least it’s good to get a wider perspective on things. Tbh Lemmy in general and especially the leftist instances have made me reconsider some of my long standing beliefs and have contributed greatly to my radicalization lol
