As someone who briefly lived in NYC if anyone for any reason at all tries to stop you for conversation, Do. Not. Engage. Headphones in, never make eye contact, and never stop moving. Anyone who doesn’t behave that way is a tourist, a cop, crazy, or a mark. None of which you want to be. So this is already self-selecting for people you don’t want to interact with

  • Similarly “Clapton’s” I shot the sheriff was originally a Bob Marley song

In fact, being the racist twat he is, Clapton changed a lyric from “I didn’t shoot no deputy” to “I didn’t shoot the deputy”. While only slightly different Clapton’s version implies that those roles are held by two people whereas Marley’s implies it’s the same person. That’s because Marley’s was a protest song saying that the police in his community were sent by colonizers and had no interest in protecting their community. Thus his claim that he did shoot a sheriff (a position he has no respect for) but he did not shoot a deputy (someone the community authorizes to enforce their own rules). That distinction was kind of the entire point of the song and Clapton changed it, presumably due to the aforementioned fact that he is a racist twat

I get what you’re saying but so far in my experience here the vast majority of AI content is at least identified as such. AI content is here to stay and in my opinion attempts to remove/ban it will just make it more insidious. If you go back to Reddit AI posts/comments are everywhere and absolutely none of it is labeled. On lemmy people get to choose to interact with it which I think is probably way better

  • I’m glad you’re happy but I got similar results in half the time. I went from 40k, to 70, then 80, then 120, and finally 135 now in about 6 years. Of those each time I got a new job, except for 70 to 80 which was when I went from contracting to full time at the same job. Hell, I asked my manager at that job how I could get a raise and he said my best bet was to quit, go work somewhere else and come back in a few years. My number one piece of career advice I give everyone is “quit your job” especially if you work corporate
