It’s actually horrifying how fast rent has gone up. Our mortgage in Boston went from being $1000mo more than average rent to $500mo under average rent in only two years. Even with the tax hike we just passed in my town, my total cost of ownership is far below renting even accounting for the savings we set aside for upkeep and emergencies
Plus this whole time we’ve been improving the property. We now have solar on a 0% apr loan and don’t have electricity bills anymore and the mo billing for the panels is less than our old electric bills. We also used a state program to replace all the insulation and windows at cost with another 0 apr loan. So our gas bill is now only ~$80-100 compared to the $400-500 gas bill in the shithole apartments around here with 200 year old paper insulation. And if we want we can use another state program to replace our furnace with a heat pump and lower that further.
So our relative cost went down even more as utilities keep going up and renters have zero control over their homes energy usage
You may be overestimating how many people stream using a regular android device. My last employer was a streaming service and a fraction of a fraction of our user base was using our android app compared to the number of people installing an app on a tv directly or using any of the set top boxes that have apps. Even cable companies are providing app stores on their set top boxes now and they had more MAU than android at least for us

I also do this. The account I can’t leave at zero is the one that gets automated bills. It’s an unfortunate side effect of being paid on a random day of the month instead of consistently on the 1st and 15th.
I miss being paid this way. It’s actually incredibly convenient to always have all bills and automatic transfers tied to exact dates you know you are being paid. I could keep my checking account at nearly zero with no float and have all my money earning interest
Being paid biweekly sucks because one month it’s the 8th and the 22 and then another month it’s the 12th and 26th and then for some reason there are two months where I get paid three times, etc… and I have to keep basically a whole paycheck sitting in checking to absorb bills and whatnot because the day I get paid is constantly changing.

Boston seaport is almost exclusively developed and owned by Chinese developers. There’s also a very noticeable uptick in Chinese around town compared to pre-Covid. I wonder what the data looks like for how recently this shifted away from other nationalities
