  • Firstly: Why does the US have a say in that?

Due to integral parts of the aircraft coming from the US. As stated, the engine is from General Electric, giving the US a lever to block the sale. This is quite common, especially for engines, which are very expensive to develop, and as long as everybody get’s along, that’s no problem.

That also was a problem for the Russians in their civil aviation when western companies left the market. Even new Russian airplanes had so many parts from America/Europe that they had to first be “Russianised”.

In our case here it clearly shows the urgent need again to decouple from the US as fast as possible. Especially in defense, all key parts should be from Europe.

Secondly: Separation from the US new imperialistic ambitions starts at the personal level. Use Deepl instead of Google for translations. The quality is better as well.

    Absolutely true!

  • Not if there is a proper sharing agreement in place before that, something similar to Airbus or so.

Very true! Airbus is a European public company, seated in the Netherlands and controlled by multiple European governments (FR, DE, ES) who together control a blocking minority.

This is exactly what would have to happen to French nuclear weapons, turning them into European nuclear weapons instead.

does not have an agenda of undermining the state and international relations

We relied on that not changing before. We mustn’t do it again.

  • Not doubting his general point. But it is a bit weird of Mr Gomart to pick the Rafale to prove it.

It is precisely what happened there (France leaving the Eurofighter Typhoon programme and doing their own model due to not being able to find a common compromise) that cripples European alternatives and enables American models to dominate our market.

Would we be able to agree on common standardised models, we could have far more for far less and it could be European.
