The problem is when people say “financial losses” about services. Canada Post goes everywhere and is a service in our country. Much like healthcare and education. No one says “education profits are at an all time low and our hospitals have losses in the billions” because they are public services. These are things that as taxpayers, we value and use to make us a society

Canada Post is not fucking FedEx or UPS and shouldn’t be held in the same regard as it.

(this is not saying that they couldn’t be more efficient though, to this I have no comment that isn’t likely uninformed).

I don’t think there’s another character I like more than these folks. Logan probably sits at the top though.

10/10 recommend. I’m 6/9 through the expanse and on 7/10 with Joe Abercrombie. (these are number of books, not ratings)

Joe’s books are great. After the first trilogy, it’s 3 stand-alone and a compilation of short stories. So if you don’t love his stuff (if you liked the expanse you will) you can be done after the First Law Trilogy

I realized that I, on paper, really like non-fiction books. In practice, I really only like fantasy and space operas (different than sci-fi)

Every night before bed, I read 10 pages or a chapter. Whichever comes first. Can always read more, but not less.

So to answer,

I finished it, but I hate read it from about the ⅓ point until the end.

I don’t understand why anyone would like ita and I too loath it, with a passion.

There are no redeeming qualities, it was time I’ll never get back. The only positive thing is, combined with hate reading the 3 Body Problem trilogy around the same time, I came to the conclusion that just because I bought/was gifted a book, doesn’t mean it can’t be a DNF.

Mid 30s millennial here from the prairies.

When we moved out, the thermostat didn’t have Fahrenheit it only had Celsius. My parents could never understand what our house temperature was and it took me forever to figure it out because I grew up with Fahrenheit indoors, Celsius outdoors.

Ovens are only set to Fahrenheit, and we would always check the pool temperature in Fahrenheit

Even now, when my kids have a fever I measure it in Fahrenheit

To you last point, only for outdoor weather.

They can comfortably live in Fahrenheit for house temp, water temp, body temp and cooking temps.

Book 3 ties it all together nicely. If you enjoyed the trilogy, there are 3 stand-alone ones that follow.

Book 4 is good but sets up a lot of stuff

Book 5 is awesome because you get a lot of insight to the Northmen

Book 6 is great, no spoilers.

Not only that, but all those fragmented streaming services keep increasing prices.

You get more bang for you buck with services outside of peacock. Peacocks draw (at least for people I know) was old reruns of favourite shows. Even if you didn’t want a VPN and a sail, you can buy the DVDs or bluerays.

Disney +, Netflix, Prime for all their issues, create new content that people want.

I just finished listening to Joe Abercrombie’s First Law Trilogy. The narrator was fantastic. Probably the best I’ve listened.

This just happened to me today. I was talking with a colleague and recalled that they had just gone on a short trip with their partner. First time away from the kids.

I asked how it was, I was a couple weeks overdue but they excitedly told me about it. It felt good to ask, did it change my day? Not really that much.

But this person was excited to share (a few weeks ago) their excitement and anticipation with me. So when I asked how it went, they got a chance to relive it and share with me the results.

All in all, they cared enough to share, I cared enough to ask and at the end of it, I felt good. I got to share in their excitement and make a person feel heard and valued AND they got to relive the excitement again.

As a Canadian, same. And so much more.

Then you get people who spell with Canadian and American spelling and you wonder if you’ve been spelling things wrong or if once again, American culture is slipping in.
