  • I imagine it’s because all of these technologies combine to make a sci-fi-esque computer assistant that talks to you, and most pop culture depictions of AI are just computer assistants that talk to you. The language already existed before the technology, it already took root before we got the chance to call it anything else.

I feel bad for calling in sick because my department is horrifically understaffed and 1 person not showing up for work increases the workload of everyone else by about 50%. And since it’s a hospital, it’s not like we can just continue working like normal and let the company eat the profit loss; if our department is not working at 100% then innocent people’s health suffers.

  • Our lab’s auto pipetter is broken about 60% of the time, most days we just shut it off and reroute specimens to the workbenches to do it by hand because it’s faster than attempting to fix it or call customer service. Maybe once the good-for-nothing customer service repair phone line is replaced by AI it will actually function and be worth the half a million dollars we spent on this stupid machine, lol

Am I the only one who can still have fun while dialing it back a bit? Just “fumble” a few times, fall behind intentionally, and then use your skill to catch back up. If you can’t catch up, your friends win and have fun. If you do catch back up, your friends think it was a close game. Either way you get to flex and nobody thinks you’re a sweaty tryhard and we all get to have fun.

  • “observing changes the result” doesn’t mean conciousness attempting to look at it changes the result, there is nothing special about conciousness (in quantum mechanics)

“observing changes the result” means we try to measure atoms and fields but unfortunately our measurement tools are also made out of atoms and fields which interact with the atoms and fields we are trying to measure, giving us a different result than if we don’t attempt to measure it

It does bring up interesting questions about what the “real” behavior of reality is tho, since anything we observe is technically different than what it would be if left alone. We can only ever know what a slightly altered state of reality is

  • Clunky but still fun. It ends up being a mostly mouse-based UI if you’re like me and constantly forget which deck button is mapped to which hotkey (it doesn’t help that there are 3x as many hotkeys as there are steam deck buttons), and you’re going to want to use the trackpad as your mouse. As a result I ended up feeling a lot of strain in my right hand while playing in handheld mode just from the sheer amount of APM my poor thumb was burdened with while the rest of my right hand was supporting the weight of the deck. The game runs like a dream though.
