Some 2,200 infants died in Texas in 2022 – an increase of 227 deaths, or 11.5%, over the previous year, according to preliminary infant mortality data from the Texas Department of State Health Services that CNN obtained through a public records request. Infant deaths caused by severe genetic and birth defects rose by 21.6%. That spike reversed a nearly decade-long decline. Between 2014 and 2021, infant deaths had fallen by nearly 15%.
It’s not about the morality of it. The point is cruelty and division. That’s all it ever is in this country.
Exactly. Christofascists are despicable.
it’s always a out treating woman as cattle, its’ sickening
I’m so glad we prevented all those abortions so the unwanted or unhealthy kids could instead die in more painful ways such as congenital defects, poverty and neglect. Virtue signalling is bad, unless it causes preventable suffering to children in which case apparently Supply-Side Jesus is all for it.
Remember the 10-year-old rape victim who had to travel out-of-state for an abortion, and poor Milo Evan Dorbert, who lived a short life of 99 minutes before dying painfully of Potter syndrome, which left him without functioning kidneys. There are many other rape victims and babies with invariably-fatal conditions who have needlessly suffered for political reasons.
Every downvote is one of them lurking among us.

Feel free to explain to us how a higher infant death rate which can be correlated with harsher abortion laws is a good thing.
Saving children. /s
Newsflash: The christofascist death cult doesn’t care.
On an unrelated note, funeral home profits have notably increased in recent times…
Republicans love babies the same way Palpatine loves democracy.
…Republicans also love democracy the same way Palpatine loves democracy.
Fta
The increase in deaths could partly be explained by the fact that more babies are being born in Texas. One recent report found that in the final nine months of 2022, the state saw nearly 10,000 more births than expected prior to its abortion ban – an estimated 3% increase.
It could also be partly explained by mothers being forced into carrying defective fetuses to term.
Like this mother: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2023/04/06/1168399423/a-good-friday-funeral-in-texas-baby-halos-parents-had-few-choices-in-post-roe-te
Weird how that happens when you restrict access to contraception and sex ed.
That’s not weird, it’s by design. Need more meat for the meat grinder, whether it’s factory workers or soldiers
Yay! 3% more defective babies!
Has anyone ever considered that sometimes there’s a very legitimate reason why some women decide to terminate a pregnancy?
is almost like they can’t afford caring for a defective fetus with the joke that’s USA health system
United Stupidity of America ⛪🙏🕍✝️
So the decision accomplished nothing. What a waste.

It does, actually. If these women weren’t forced to give birth to non-viable fetuses, those fetuses wouldn’t become dead babies.
Edit: Also, even if I agreed with you, we would need to have those treatments for genetic defects available before we force people to have babies.

I don’t think anyone supports rape, but it happens anyway.
Ah, so you’re pro-choice then.

You mean treat genetics defects like the ones detailed in the article? Where the babies couldn’t breathe because of the defect, the hemispheres of their brain didn’t separate properly and there was no hope of life? How about ones where their brain stem is exposed and they’ll never live? Or the ones where the brain never formed at all? It would be great if we could find cures and treatment for these things. But it’s pretty damn hard to treat something so tremendously wrong when the babies die within days to hours.

No no, we do, just only for prisoners. Everything else is just sparkling servitude.
Do you think there was no focus on that before? Do you have issues walking and chewing gum at the same time?
At least you know what you are.
“That spike reversed a nearly decade-long decline. Between 2014 and 2021, infant deaths had fallen by nearly 15%.”
I mean, is the argument here that banning abortion causes more babies to die?
These babies were going to die anyway. Either with a medically safe abortion or through a complicated and risky pregnancy that also risks the mother’s life.
Banning abortion makes the parent and infant suffer completely unnecessarily, and often die completely unnecessarily.

Thats some weak name calling. Surely you can do better.

Is it really “name calling” if it’s true?
Abortion is not murder.
Yes it is. Its a delibrate action with the intent to kill someone. How is it not murder?
Flour, eggs, water, and milk is not a cake, even when combined in a bowl. Sperm is not a person. An egg is not a person. A fetus is the equivalent of cake batter and your mom licked my spoon.
Independent life doesn’t begin until after birth and after the first breaths. Before then, the embryo/fetus is a parasite to the mother.
A fetus is not a someone. Do you view miscarriages as manslaughter?
“Yes it is. Its a delibrate action with the intent to kill someone. How is it not murder?”
By your deeply flawed definition, lethal self-defense is murder, as is combat warfare, as is unplugging a ventilator based on the persons explicit instructions.
I wouldn’t expect more though, given your opinion.
Ok, I didn’t copy and paste the legal definition. Do you actually want me to bother, or are just here to call names?
Yes, because now miscarriages are involuntary manslaughter and should be charged accordingly. /s
