    It goes back to Nixon telling the IRS to remove tax free and charity status from anyone who practices discrimination. Library University did just that. And when the IRS sent them a letter they went to Ford who told them to change their way. Johnson told them the same thing, so they banned together evangelist to get Carter elected president so he could tell the IRS to not remove their tax free status. Carter won and told them he would not and would see what the courts say. This infuriated Liberty University so they and the other evangelist leaders used abortion and religious rights being infringed on as a call to elect Reagan. And again Reagan said no he wants to see what the courts say. Well by now it was apparent they would lose their tax free status or would have to change. They did change policy except now other Republicans used the evangelist call to get themselves elected not to do anything they promised but to provide tax cut and government subsides to those who paid them.

      Agreed, this implicit association of Christianity with a political party is unproductive and harmful.

      There are plenty of religious dipshits who crow about Christ who vote blue, and I’m sure they share the same delusions about what America was ‘meant’ to be
