We have a GS108Ev3 and a Nighthawk X6 R8000.
GS108Ev3 has this famous 80-port 10Mbps issue, completely useless.
Today our X6 R8000 broke down. I factory reset it, then the 192.168.1.1 web page keeps redir to https://www.routerlogin.com/start.htm, which is 404. now it is a electricity wasting brick. hopeless crap.
I’ll fire any employee buys netgear again.

I had the same issue with my ageing r8000p, just before I got rid if it. The firmware has been broken for that unit for years and they never bothered to fix it. Just pushed out a beta which I refuse to use especially on a Internet gateway.
I got around the dns failure by setting the IP on the laptop it was hardwired to.
IP 192.168.1.100 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1
Dns1 8.8.8.8 Dns2 8.8.4.4
I then pushed the hardware reset button with a paperclip at the back of the router.
As soon as the led showed a lan wire connection, I punched 192.168.1.1 in a browser bypassed the wizard and selected manual setup this got me back into the GUI, I went straight to WAN setup and saved the dns settings (above) into the router.
For some reason, the factory reset blanked them out entirely. Then, it was just a case of entering the isp username and pass (which I didn’t bother with as after a firmware downgrade then upgrade I decided… I, too, was done with netgear)
I bought an Asus gt-axe16000 to replace it with. The only netgear thing I own now is an unmanged network switch lol.

I found my R8000 to be very reliable for eight-plus years. Although I’ve replaced it with an OPNsense router so I can have VLAN and multiple WAN support, I still roll it out once a year to support my Twinkly holiday lights. Sorry yours had an issue.
Netgear dumb commercial switches are good.
That’s where it begins and ends with them. Their Soho is shit. Has been for the last decade.
Last Soho I bought of theirs, a simple reboot would drop the configs 80% of the time.
The router after that was a tp link, it was good enough, def a step up from Netgear, but not great.
I ended up going mikrotik. Super solid, always updated, but man is it intense to learn. Would never recommend for a newbie to networking.
Yeah, gave up on Netgear years ago because of terrible firmware. Only have Asus routers now, about the only brand that I trust to provide decent support for long enough. The Asus routers that I’ve had work well…some of the firmware releases have been buggy, but I can always revert to a nice, stable previous firmware version.
Asus are great - appreciated their work ever since their CUSL motherboards in the early 2000’s.
Only bugbear I have with Asus now is they’re “doing a Samsung” - great hardware and great support, but bloated with a metric fucktonne of shit on their firmware now that serves little other than to add another fancy line onto the box blurb.
On balance though, I’d still choose something with an Asus name.
Asus has an easy to use interface with nice features. Plus, Asus Ai-mesh is so easy to setup.
I’ve had dreadful experiences with NetGear over the years, and I won’t put any of their gear into production anymore, except possibly a dumb network switch.
TP-Link, TrendNet, Zyxel, Cisco, Unifi. . . all acceptable alternatives, IMO.
If you want a nice solid network switch, try the Zyxel GS1200-8.
They are really, really easy to configure, especially VLANs if you use them.

There is a DD-WRT image for the Netgear R8000. That’s an upgrade anyway.
3 different netgear routers over the years, for whatever reason only accessible (with no issue) via safari. Null errors on any chromium based browsers that lead to the netgear re-direct and as of a couple months ago, Firefox also has this error. Safari still works flawlessly. So stupid.
Linksys, tp link, and Ubiquiti routers have no issue with the 192.168.1.1 address.
I will never buy Netgear again, but for a slightly different reason. I have one of their four-bay NAS units. It has always worked well, but Netgear discontinued sales and support. I can understand them choosing to discontinue manufacturing and sales, as I am also a business owner. But, not supporting and not even providing a paid facility for secure cloud access is frustrating to say the least. On top of that, aside from a notice on their web site, there was no communication with customers.
What are the options?
