No disrespect to Zachary Quinto, who is an amazing actor in his own right. But whenever I think of Spock, only Nimoy comes to mind.
Nimoy isn’t Spock. Spock is Nimoy.
And lizard beats spock.
As I recall, nothing beats Spock. But it has been a while since I played rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock.
Scissors cuts paper.
Paper covers rock.
Rock crushes lizard.
Lizard poisons Spock.
Spock smashes scissors.
Scissors decapitates lizard.
Lizard eats paper.
Paper disproves Spock.
Spock vaporizes rock.
Rock crushes scissors.
I hear this comment.

Radiation beats Spock.
What about pon far?
Kif! Search them for paper. And…bring me a rock.

Ethan Peck. Agree! A shame he never got to act opposite Nimoy like Quinto did.
I don’t even really like Disco but Ethan Peck is a great Spock. Thankful that they put him in Strange New Worlds too.

I don’t hate it, but I also strongly dislike Trek that doesn’t follow the episodic formula, meaning I can’t drop in anywhere and have an enjoyable experience. I disliked Picard for the same reason. SNW is much more planet-of-the-week, which I greatly prefer.
It was bad enough when cliff hangers spanned a few months; now they span a period closer to a year.
I mean, come on. I’m getting old and yeah, I’d like to see the next episode before I die.

Quinto has the disadvantage that the movies he played Spock in were shit overall.
(The first two, at least. Like most people I never saw the third one.)
I actually also quite like Ethan Peck’s Spock. Wonderfully cast. But of course Nimoy is still the best.
I remember reading that book. His first book was called “I am not Spock” and was talking about all the stuff that’s Leonard Nimoy alone, but this one was about how he’d internalized a voice from his character who would have the Vulcan point of view.
One of the most interesting parts of the book was where Spock pointed out there’s no need to fear death because it’s non-existence, and you won’t be there to care. Considering I read this when I was still in grade school, it was a pretty big revelation.
I wonder how many actors have had to go through a similar process as Nimoy: playing such a culturally iconic character that nobody can see you as anyone else. The natural reaction has to be to resist it at first, but then he came to embrace it and allowed it to become a part of him.
Most sitcom actors run into that. I’m sure Jim Parsons won’t ever be seen as anyone else, or for an older example all of the cast of Seinfeld (arguably besides Julia).
I think of him as Michael from The Good Place, but it’s probably because I watched it more recently than Cheers.
I see Becker when I think of Danson
@TheGiantKorean He also had a terrific recurring guest role in the drama Damages.
He should also be glad that he gets three other things mentioned before anyone brings up that time he did blackface.
JFC how did I not know about this? While he was dating Whoopi Goldberg and roasting her. Fuck.
Nobody will ever see Bryan Cranston as anything other than a goofy TV dad.
People have compiled screenshots of the negative reactions when he was announced for Breaking Bad, lol.

I don’t even know who Jim Parsons is, so perhaps he’ll be a little less affected by that, but Seinfeld is a poor example because the character (and show) is literally named after the actor. Though I’ll concede your point stands for George and Kramer.
His narration for Civ 4 was charming and wonderful
TFW you have discovered pottery
Also Seaman on the dreamcast.
The quote from Sputnik he read was especially memorable.
yo was that him? dang I had no clue
He wasn’t always Spock to me.
I saw him in tv shows like “In Search Of…” and other movies like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. I know I saw a Western with him in it, but can’t remember which one.
Yeah, Spock is his most famous role by far, and despite what anyone thinks of the new Trek movies, I really loved his part in them. (IMO Quinto does a great Spock. No, it’s not Nimoy, but it’s a really good performance.)
He’s also one of the best bad guys in Columbo
Don’t forget about the Bilbo Baggins video!
That video was the pinnacle of art. We should have just given up on society after it was done because nothing that comes after could possibly be any better.
Aww, went looking for it and I couldn’t find the full episode. If anyone else wants to know, it’s S02:E06 Columbo: A Snitch in Crime if you want to see highlights or look for the episode.
It is on peacock but then you have to like… Use peacock…
Nope. I’m subscribed out. Unless it can be found on the high seas, I’ll be giving this one a pass.
I don’t care what people say about the new Star Trek movies at all. I liked them.
I have no idea what kind of person Nimoy was. He was always spock to me. The other actors I know better. What’s a good docu that shows Nimoy as a person?
Fringe.
The good old William Bell.
Olivia channeling Bell is the series’ crowning achievement.
Yes, yes it was , damn she’s a good acrtress (not to disparage Nimoy, but that was Gold)
This gives you some idea of who Nimoy was.
There’s a documentary about him on Netflix that was done with his family around the time he died. It paints him as a caring dad, and of course Spock. It’s been a few years since I watched it.
The Spockumentary you seek is called For the Love of Spock (2016).
@Redhotkurt @The_Picard_Maneuver @NoiseColor
definitely worth watching
He will also be William Bell forever.
I loved that show and hate they had to rush an ending to it.
Still I think it was a beautiful ending and they wouldn’t come up with anything better.
I had no idea that Mr. Nimoy was the son of Jewish Ukrainian immigrants.
He was also Galvatron in the Transformers movie.
And Sentinel Prime in the Bayverse, which makes him one of the only redeeming qualities of that steaming pile of waste.
I did see that when I was checking if Nemoy continued to do the voice in the series or just the movie. (He didn’t, it went back to Frank Welker, who voiced Megatron.)
I gave the first Bay movie a chance, because did 6 year old me ever love transformers in the 80s, but one Bay movie was more than enough for me. Maybe I’ll look up the Bay scenes on YouTube so I can hear Nemoy without dealing with the rest of the movie…
I’ll rip open Ultra Magnus, and every other Autobot, until the Matrix has been destroyed.
Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy.
It’s a pity you Autobots die so easily, or I might have a sense of satisfaction now!
I may have seen this movie more than any other single movie that exists. I can hear his voice in my head. So many great vocal performances.
I still think this is a near perfect movie. I will still watch it every now and then, and I feel it holds up perfectly. The soundtrack is 100% dated, but I think the songs are awesome and I listen to them occasionally too.
We always do Mr. Vulcan.
I also think of space elves
@GrammatonCleric @[email protected] elves fits more for Eldar from Warhammer 40k i think ;)
Civ always makes me think of Nimoy. His voice-lines for Civ 4 echo in my head to this day.
“Remember”
absolutely perfect useage of the word “visage” here, really adds to it
He strikes (struck?) me as someone who would drop a word like ‘visage’ into normal conversation.
I mean yeah probably but you gotta have a certain je ne sais quoi to pull that shit off. it’s hard. but when it works it’s so good
