Putting probationary in the title is so misleading, most people associate probation with bad performance or punishment. What it really means is “recently hired”
Hmmm, good point. But I’ll say in my part of the US, probationary means “recently hired, not yet finalized.” A lot of places I worked at gave us a 90 day probationary period.

I think it’s a full year for federal employees though
