If you keep misplacing something, keep it in a set place or places in each room and discipline yourself in doing so until it becomes habit.

It’s usually best to put something in the first place you think of when trying to find it, even if it might look out of place there.

As an extension to this, I’ve found putting most of my day-to-day things in a bag/backpack etc. helps the most. It’s whatever works best for you but I always keep my keys, meds, cards and a USB cable in my bag, and that goes out with me basically everywhere. Just make sure you’re not carrying half your life around with you!

I always get stuck on things if they “don’t have a place” and I have to decide where it’s supposed to go

I’ve seen people talk about putting items with either their “cousins” (similar things that may have a similar purpose) or their “co-workers” (things you use alongside the item) and that seems to help lots

For example, HDMI cables can be put next to the TV (coworkers) or you can store them in that drawer with all the other random cables you have (cousins), but they probably shouldn’t go in your wardrobe (even though it’s easy to put them there)

Oo I like that way of thinking about it. Cables just seem to accumulate in like 10 different places and yet I can never find one when I need it.

we used to have a doom-drawer full of tangled cables but recently my partner put all the cables on hooks on the back of a hallway cupboard door - different cables loop over different hooks, they’re not tangled, and you can see all of them at once!
