I’m on the verge of stepping away from Reddit (I might stick around to moderate some communities but won’t be actively engaging with the content). I’d like to bring over the things I enjoyed from Reddit, specifically some communities I liked. I’m curious about how well they would do here or on an instance like lemmy.world. Most of the communities I participated in on Reddit were black focused, which often brought in trolls or upset users. 💀

I’m not sure if diversity is Lemmy’s strong suit (yet - simply because being popular is not its strong suit), but acceptance/tolerance/being generally less shit than reddit definitely is. One main benefit of the fediverse is you can always block instances. So pick an instance you like that is welcoming, without trolls, and is defederated from instances you don’t want, then you’re good to go. Not that brigading/trolling can’t happen, but it’s harder to do.

This is well put. I think you’ll find people largely very welcoming but I think you’ll struggle to find an audience initially. That being said, I hope you try and I hope you’re successful!

I’m in full support of this! Any BIPOC space is my jam, and there’s always room for spaces like this in my book.
