What it says on the tin - a comm to request a pirated eBook or audiobook. Audiobooks will get hosted on TankieTube.
Should be a very low intensity comm, just a way of centralising requests for books. I’m happy to moderate it and to manage request fulfillment - I’m pretty resourceful at finding pirated books that aren’t available on the clearnet.
Edit: I’m sure if people get confused about the vision for the comm it’ll be fine - I’ll probably just ping Foucaults to get a good suggestion

Element information
Element is a messaging app that lets you talk to people over the Matrix protocol.
To get started, check out this link, where you can choose to either download Element for your platform or, if on a computer, open it in a browser.
The instructions that follow are for the desktop application and the web application, but the process is similar on all apps:
Press “Create Account”
We host our own Matrix server, so if you want you can change matrix.org to chapo.chat.
This is completely optional; users who sign up with a matrix.org username can still talk to people with chapo.chat username.
(Note: It is chapo.chat, not hexbear.net. Also, registrations aren’t always open on chapo.chat; if they’re not, just create an account on matrix.org)
Fill in a username and password
Hit register, and you’re done!
Yep, can do. Let me find some time to sit at a computer so I can answer this properly and thoughtfully.
Suggestion: allow for asking for book recommendations.
I’m not opposed to it but we do have the Literature comm and honestly I have a pretty narrow range of interests and focus for reading so I wouldn’t be able to do a good job of making suggestions most of the time.
Also there’s a risk of cluttering up the comm with lots of posts seeking recommendations for books whereas my vision for this comm would be for it to be more like a fulfillment centre; often it can take a while for a new book to make it onto the piracy scene so, if this goes ahead, I’m planning to trawl through the old, unfulfilled requests periodically just to see if that book has hit the scene after the request was posted.
I think if we had a lot of book discussion then it would likely detract from the Literature comm and split its momentum while negatively impacting on function of this prospective comm. And splits are for Trots.
Yours is not a bad idea by any means but I think careful implementation of it would be important. I remeber Foucaults did a post that was like “Tell me what kind of book you want and I’ll give you suggestions” some time ago that was an absolute success. I think it would be good to take the idea Literature comm modteam to see if they’d be interested in making a sticky post or doing an occasional megathread on it.
