Hot take: I’m tired of people blaming this on “lack of media literacy”, I don’t think this has anything to do with media literacy. I think the twerps who make this are more self aware than we realize and get this shit is sorta stupid and cringe but it’s ammo that supports their side in the culture war and they’re posting it anonymously anyway so they churn it out. I think they’re totally capable, in terms of their education and intellect, to have more literate understanding of media, they’re just not interested in it.
I honestly think dumbass creeps like this will always exist, even under FALGSC or whatever, no amount of education is gonna snap them out of it. The real solution is to marginalize them. Bully them, censor them, create some limited amount of slop for them and try and do everything to encourage them to just spend all day guzzling their slop alone in their commie bloc apartment away from all the decent members of society.
Yeah you’re right about my wording, I couldn’t think of a better catch-all term for “chuds refusing to engage with AND actively rewriting the material provided”. Grifters are a massive influence in the space along with blatant fascist recruiters ala Bannon’s 4ch campaign, and it’s depressing how well the OP works on swaths of extremely online young men
