Question for you: have you ever considered moving your community to another instance, like [email protected], to spread the communities a bit out of Lemmy.world?
I’m only a moderator, that’s not a decision I’d be taking alone.
Problem is that a community as broad as a gaming one is bound to be subscribed my many user on many instances. Switching it to another one will only move the problem elsewhere, not fix it.
Still, if that’s a problem, we could research other courses of actions, like dividing LW in multiple sub-instances for broad topics. The idea would be to get all gaming related community on “games.lemmy.world”, and getting most games related communities to switch there, so external instances can subscribe to that specific instance without receiving all the other updates from other communities.
That would also make it a lot easier to scale the servers to the right size for the right use.

Because these communities are already there and are active, that’s why. Not everybody has to share your enthusiasm for removing communities from lemmy.world.

Looking at your examples:
The movie ones: To me the world one looks like the way healthier community, a lot more different users posting stuff, on lemm.ee it’s mostly some power users creating all the content, actually really only moderators of that community. I find you talking about how it is the more active community a bit dishonest tbh. Same i found with the dataisbeautiful one. I have a feeling you care more about computers (fedi infra) than the topics.
The gaming one somebody else told you their opinion on it, and why it is a good community.
The android ones… i don’t really have an opinion on it. IIRC at first they were all on the world (or.ml?) one and then created the lemdro.id instance. What about the .ml one by the way? Why is it only ever a problem when world has a community that exists elsewhere?
Generally i don’t think having multiple active c’s is all that problematic, at least they are active.
I’m the most active postee there (hello again). I prefer LW’s gaming community for a few reasons, a lot of which are kind of petty but still.
I dislike the shitjustworks domain name, I think it’ll hamper community growth when a casual user base joins and thinks it’s a dumb name
The people there often mirror /r/games posts, there’s nothing wrong with that and I enjoy browsing it, but I enjoy the more quality over quantity of LW’s community
But mostly it’s just reluctance to move away from the largest gaming community in Lemmy. Content is hard to find, and I talked about this many times, leaving LW communities means splitting the userbase even more and wondering where the content is. People are tired of migrating and just want to post and discuss. If having a large instance causes technical issues, that’s more of Lemmy’s problem IMO.

Agreed on discoverability, that’s why we now have those threads, and that [email protected] is featured at the top of LW’s home page.
On the other hand, sometimes it’s a bit frustrating. [email protected] is now more active and with more content than the LW version, but some people still keep posting to it, while we offered moderation position to anyone who would like to (looking at you, [email protected] ), and Lemm.ee is a well established instance with a neutral domain name.
I moved [email protected] to [email protected] , left a pinned post there so that people could find the new community, it’s more active now that it used to be on LW.

To be honest, this community seems nice and we’ll run, my comment was more targeting at LW communities almost “name squatting”, which is definitely not the case here, well done!

Centralization creates technical issues, at the moment aussie.zone have a week delay with LW as it is too large ( https://lemmy.world/post/15634599 ). There was another issue in the past, where instances like lemmy.blahaj.zone, lemdro.id, lemmy.nz, reddthat.com were impacted : https://lemmy.world/post/13967373
