Since https://old.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/15ldf34/samsung_odyssey_neo_g9_new_firmware_10130/ is archived and I can’t post there I decided to make this thread so that if someone bricks it the same way that I did, they can attempt to unbrick it.
There was this comment: https://old.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/15ldf34/samsung_odyssey_neo_g9_new_firmware_10130/k3od1uy/ that said that he bricked his monitor by attempting to downgrade to 1011, black screen, only backlight works, and I did the exact same thing.
First comment below his comment was a guide to navigate the menu “in blind”.
This gave me some hope, I put the latest firmware on USB, named it 1017 and tried to get the firmware to upgrade back and managed to get it working again.
Sequence I did was:
- Press OSD button, wait for monitor to “turn on” (you’ll see backlight light up)
- Press OSD button (Open osd)
- Press UP (Select menu)
- Press OSD (Open menu)
- Press UP (Navigates to the bottom)
- Press OSD (Opens support menu)
- Press DOWN (Select Software Update)
- Press OSD (Open Software Update)
- Press OSD (This starts searching for firmware)
- Wait 30 seconds
- Press OSD again
- Now lose all hope (as this was 100% my last attempt before shelving it) and write in Discord how you bricked your monitor, just as you’re about to press Enter, the monitor should now light up and display the glorious: Odyssey logo (This is what I did at least)
Video I used for reference was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHrBYgC5oz8 (Which is not for Neo, so it doesn’t show the “Confirm firmware install step”)
(It took me couple of hours of trying different things before I did the sequence I wrote)
I’m making this post so that if someone does happen have the same issue, at least they would have hope, as the only reason I managed to unbrick it was due to the linked post.
Hopefully this will get indexed by the search.
Side note: I only tried to downgrade to 1011 because I couldn’t find my original 1012. After upgrading from stock 1012 to 1015 I wasn’t quite happy how brightness worked now so I wanted to downgrade. Point being, if you have 1012, upgrading to 1015 is might not be worth it if you’re using it as a productivity tool.
