Not just Mao as in Zedong but Meow as in cat sounds. I’m a Maoist (please don’t crucify me) who’s been lurking around Lemmygrad and Hexbear since I was a baby ML. As you can probably tell from my name, I’m probably a little too passionate about the environment, and want to add that im-vegan even though nobody asked. I am also a big Free Software user and advocate, and am looking into a pair of programmer socks even though I can not, and do not, know how to code.

If you want to read more:

I used to live for the struggle sessions in the comments, but I will probably be garbage when it comes to actually contributing to them and other converstations. I can seem to develop my own thinking but I have a hard time putting that thinking into words (probably something to do with autism or ADHD or both, working on it).

spoiler

Used to be an anime fan, stopped watching as I haven’t had the time nor the interest. Image and profile pic are Tohru from Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. It’s a particularly weird one for me because while about 60% of it (as far as I remember, could be less) is really wholesome, cute, colorful, and enjoyable, the other 40% goes from male-gazey objectifying garbage (this is sometimes literally entire characters) to “Wait what the fuck that’s illegal”. Probably couldn’t go back and watch it now without experiencing more brain damage, to be honest. Tohru’s still cute though so there she is.

TL;DR I’m new here and I’m not good at either IRL socializing or social media, so please bear (forgive me) with me if I Badpost outside of Badposting. If you got through the first part, thank you, and if you read the other parts, I just want to know how.

EDIT: Just want to that you all for coming and welcoming me to the platform! It has felt really great to finally have a voice, and I feel like more of an active participant than an observer with people who actually have good politics. Much love (I would add the hugging cat but I’m on Jerboa right now) to you all ❤️.

    the best and most thought-provoking

This is what got me into Maoism in the first place, it seems to push things like crit and self-crit beyond the success of the revolution. Also the history of the CPC is really interesting, as well as the ideas of the mass line. I still have a lot to learn about the PCP (Peruvian Communist Party) and it’s pretty hard to get information due to how passionate both sides are with their arguments, but the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines) seems to be one of the most advanced (and active) Communist formations on the planet.

What’s been sucking up your time instead?

I go to school full time and work part-time, which probably doesn’t explain much. I like to get enough sleep, watch “educational” youtube videos and documentaries, as well as scroll on this wonderful bear site. Also I kind of just stopped paying attention to Anime, although I am watching Delicious in Dungeon and it is quite good. I’ll probably end up watching the next Dragon Maid season when it comes out, as well as the next season of Bocci the Rock, probably two of my favorites.

Incidentally my boomer mom likes Maidragon so you’re now cursed with that knowledge

My mom is no boomer but if I showed it to her she would probably be concerned for my well-being.

The Naxalites are Maoists, too, aren’t they?

Imagine having a job, couldn’t be me

watch “educational” youtube videos and documentaries

Let me guess, you’re referring to things like that nearly four hour video about invisible walls in Super Mario 64 :P

Also I kind of just stopped paying attention to Anime, although I am watching Delicious in Dungeon and it is quite good.

All I’ve really been watching lately is the OG PreCure because watching seasonal anime as it comes out is overrated. I pretty much only end up watching seasonals like several years late — you’ve gotta let them age at the bottom of the plan-to-watch list like a fine Kakhetian wine, until you’re so certain you’re gonna end up liking them that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

My mom is no boomer but if I showed it to her she would probably be concerned for my well-being.

      Has she seen any anime?

        The Naxalites are Maoists

Yes I think they’re the only other large explicitly Maoist formation

Let me guess, you’re referring to things like that nearly four hour video about invisible walls in Super Mario 64 :P

Yep. Those and “breadtube” (don’t laugh!), stuff like 1Dimes Cultural Revolution video or Marxism Today’s on the Naxalites, actually.

watching seasonal anime as it comes out is overrated

I’m actually so out of touch I didn’t know it was a seasonal. Hopefully it’s not one of those “twelve episodes and then no season 2” Anime

        Has she seen any anime?

Yea, she likes Violet Evergarden as well as Yuri on Ice (as do I, both were great). She’s not completely against Anime, I just think she would have a hard time with the 40%/20% stuff, it would probably be all she could remember about Dragon Maid.

I found Marxism Today just the other day, incidentally.

It could also be that I don’t actually know what “seasonal anime” means. I’ve always just assumed it basically means “every anime that comes out in a given season” so it’d be kind of embarrassing to find out that I’ve been using that term wrong the whole time.

I probably know less thn you to be honest I was paying attention for one season and I am bad at picking these kind of things up unless I directly ask. I think seasonal Anime is like you said, but there are many that release within a season that get 12 episodes with no follow up.
