As someone who straddled the age of the internet and rode it into conception, the subtle sexuality that you find in the corners, in the folds, clutching to the walls of nuanced description, is so much more powerful than the pounding bass in your face capital P Porn. I agree. I was born sometime after 1988 and prior to 1996, and so I was technically alive to witness the dawn of The Internet™ as most people since then would define it, and by no means old enough to remember IRC properly. If we’re calling it what it actually is, I wasn’t old enough to remember any of that properly. I know just enough about that era to know that I wish I’d grown up during that time; I’ll tell you that. If Thanos were to snap domain names out of existence, and hand me a comically large three ring binder full of IP addresses, I would have an internet connection only in theory, and I would have no fucking idea what I’m supposed to do with that information. I wish I remember “the beginning”—to use a terrible expression—of this magnificent travesty referred to as being online. I wish I were already there before it started as far as most people know. I know enough to know that going all the way back, the inception of this thing was courtesy of DARPA before they were called that and that it’s Eisenhower’s baby. I’m not nearly old enough to remember that dude. Time flies; death comes for us all.
