We are Leftypedia, a socialist and left-wing online encyclopedia.
If you’re a leftist of any kind or considering becoming one, you’ve probably found truthful information about socialist ideologies and movements from websites like Wikipedia lacking at best.
These days, genuine leftist ideology can be hard to get into and learn about, between the toxic culture that dominates online leftist spaces and the many issues faced by even offline socialist organizations. Reading theory-dense works from Marx can be hard at first, and the easily-accessible guides targeted at beginners often don’t even understand the work their talking about themselves!
So, what’s the solution?
A dedicated socialist resource, like Leftypedia.
We aspire for new leftists to be given an environment where original discourse is encouraged on top of sourced and informative encyclopedic articles
Since our beginning in 2019, we have hundreds of articles, dozens of editors, and a growing community and base of content.
We’re well on our way of reaching our goals, and welcome any leftist or incoming-leftist to view and editor our articles, carry out original discourse, and so on!
Questions about us? Feel free to ask them here or on the links provided above!
How does this project compare with ProleWiki? I don’t know much about that site but it has quite a larger collection of articles. I think it’s good to have multiple of such types of places though. Does this aim to be more ‘big-tent’ than ProleWiki as that is explicitly Marxist-Leninist?
Thanks for asking that.
We’re mostly made up of communists and you’ll see that viewpoint in our articles, but we’re aiming to be multi-tendency and allow other socialists to join and edit so long as they present well-sourced information. We are different from ProleWiki in many ways, one of which includes our focus on providing original leftist discourse.
We are similar to ProleWiki in that we’re both trying to spread revolutionary theory in an easy-to-understand way, it’s more that we fill different roles.
Thank you for answering! That makes sense, from a western perspective I think some on the fence ‘leftists’ who might not quite call themselves communists could be turned off from the overly ML styling of ProleWiki, so something more encompassing could definitely be useful.
Definitely. Glad I could help.
