Just another ex-redditor

In my opinion this is not very intuitive. A drop down in the settings menu would be more obvious to users.
I am on Lemmy.zip and the admins are very transparent on the funding as they have set up an Open Collective page, and they are also very receptive to user suggestions and feedback.
Absolute madlad
Many of the lemmy apps that are still in development are not released on any of these stores.
Thank you once again for these rundowns! Congratulations on the 1 month anniversary!
I didn’t know this was possible! Thanks for sharing, will give this a try.
I have most of the Android apps installed, but the two I keep switching between are Connect and Thunder. Both devs keep pushing out updates to the apps periodically and are very responsive to user feedback.
It’s fixed in the latest update!
Relieved to hear that I am not the only one! I did the usual cache and storage clean up but that did not solve the issue for me.
If people are clicking the link in the post above, it will not redirect them from within the same instance. Try this link instead - [email protected]
There are a lot of options for Lemmy, but beware they still need to mature a bit. The two apps I keep using the most are Thunder and Connect for Lemmy. Lots of users swear by Liftoff but I find the aesthetics a bit lacking for me. There’s also Lemming which is the most barebones but has a great UI for something that has only had a couple of alpha releases. Most if not all of these are available to download from Github.
The app icon looks great in the app drawer, but when you create a shortcut on thehome screen, the dynamic color fills the whole icon.
Seems to be bugged as the dynamic color from my theme seems to be filling up the icon. Image upload seems to be bugged across lemmy apps + the web. Not sure if it’s an issue with Lemmy 0.18. Anyway, here’s the screenshot - https://ibb.co/hsThPVZ
Another (mostly) happy Connect user here! It’s crazy the blistering pace at which the Dev keeps pumping out updates. I keep alternating between Connect and Thunder. I think Liftoff still needs some UI polish and it doesn’t handle jumping to communities in different instances very gracefully.
Another Connect for Lemmy use here. Apart from Jerboa, I feel Conner and Thunder have the most polished UI so far. The Connect Dev also seems to be super proactive and keeps rolling out multiple updates in a day with core features. It’s even more impressive when you consider that this is just a solo dev. Also waiting to see how Sync for Lemmy turns out!
The instance I am on (Lemmy.zip) seems to have a lot of game based communities. You can check it out to see if a community you’re looking for exists or create your own.
Cheers! Glad to have been able to contribute something meaningful!
@[email protected] Thanks again for these rundowns! I am not a system administrator so not everything makes sense to me, but I find it really interesting and insightful to know about the different challenges that a site admin needs to do. If it’s not too much effort, I would really enjoy seeing more of this posts!
Great idea on the external status page! I did run into an error 500 status when I assume the instance was being upgraded to 0.18, but the site seemed to be back pretty swiftly. Got two suggestions on this point:
Would it be possible to get a vanity URL for the status page if possible so that it’s easier to remember and access? For eg: status.lemmy.zip
or lemmy.zip/status
I am not sure if these examples are feasible as I am not very sure how TLDs work.
How about some funny pages for our error 404 or 500 pages? We can also get the community on this instance involved to design a few and ask others to vote on it!
As for the funding, IMO you are perfectly entitled to reach out to the community since you have clearly mentioned that it’s optional and not mandatory. I would recommend adding a link to the Open Collective website to the sidebar as well. I have not contributed yet, but I will in a month or two once my finances are in order.
Once again, thanks to you and @[email protected] for your efforts and glad to be a part of this instance!
Thank you for continuing to share these updates! And a hearty congratulations to you and your partner, wishing you both a very happy married life!
