I wrote a short goodbye post on Reddit as we enter the last hours of Apollo. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the support over the years, it’s truly been the journey and dream of a lifetime building this app and meeting so many people. 🥰💙 https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/14nb5qs/today_is_apollo_for_reddits_last_day_and_i_just/
Literally just tried to open it 10 minutes ago. Goodbye, Apollo. Thanks for the great app, Christian, and for dispelling all the BS that /spez tried to spew.
I just tried to open it myself just to see it close. Kind of a sad feeling. Thank you [email protected], you made reddit better and exposed /spez and reddit for what it really is.
I clicked the link and thought, I’ll read this and be done. RIF is also kaput. I’ve decided to keep it installed because all my Reddit links default to RIF and this way I won’t accidentally give Reddit any traffic.

Tried to open it out of habit and just got so sad when I saw it crash. It was a wonderful app. Godspeed, Apollo.
@christianselig Thank you for an amazing answer to the Reddit app from a former AlienBlue user. It was difficult to lose AlienBlue and the sting is familiar with Apollo. I used your app near exclusively on an iPad and adored it, so I can’t imagine what you must have had cooked up behind the scenes. I’m excited to follow your next chapter from my new home on kbin. :)
I wish I could say I’m surprised that Reddit, a US company, didn’t even let us get until the end of the US day before pulling access. But I’m not. Fuck Reddit. Fuck Spez.
They really managed to fuck up every step along the way, even the final one.
The thing that’s even funnier is that I lost Apollo at 3:55 PM, so they didn’t even wait until 00:00 GMT
Although I didn’t use your app, Christian. The work you and other devs have done with your 3rd party apps for Reddit was outstanding. Good luck with whatever’s over the next horizon!
Sorry things went sour with Reddit, and wish it could have been different.
Thank your for all your hard work over the years.
Apollo and other 3rd party apps made reddit not only usable but enjoyable. Spez and his enablers see one goal and that’s as much money as possible until the ship sinks. While I have no objections to people and companies making money. It’s HOW they go about it that really upsets me.
Thank you again, and I wish your well on your future endeavours.
Minor tangent, but why are so many comments guilded on that post? Hopefully they all came from free coins…
I dumped a bunch of awards on one of his posts using the free coins I still had from when Alien Blue was bought out.
I was clearing out my old account and there was something like 800 coins there, and I’ve never paid reddit a cent. So yeah, I’d say free coins.
I predict that Apollo will have made more money in its entire existence than reddit ever. That’s cause reddit is ass, and apollo is awesome.
Goodbye
I was browsing on Apollo around 5 pm local when it crashed, never to reopen. Knew it was coming, but it was a bit heartbreaking seeing it actually happening.
Godspeed, Apollo… gone but never forgotten.
Thank you Christian for bringing so much joy to my Reddit experience all of these years. Best wishes on whatever roads life will take you next.
Thank you, Christian, for your wonderful app, which gave so many of us countless hours of pleasure.
We truly hope to see you here in the Fediverse.Last thing I saw before total crash :(
Here in a few minutes the Apollo app should switch to a commemorative mode. With sad music :(
Edit: thought it would be midnight EST but apparently not. Definitely sometime today though
