Fox News has a bad rap on sites like Lemmy and Reddit for being “fake” and “too conservative.” However, they’re always reporting stuff that’s actually happening, that other news outlets seem to ignore. Like this article for example, which talks about criminals being arrested at the border, yet ignored by other news outlets. I never see news like this anywhere else, when in fact it’s actually happening. Why is that? Do news stations like CNN and MSNBC just think it’s not a big deal? Or, do they only pander to the Left, which seems to think there’s no border issues?

The only reason for shit reporting like this is to stoke the right wing racist hate machine. Just about every inbred Fox watching ignoramus has no clue “that undocumented immigrants had substantially lower crime rates than native-born citizens and legal immigrants across a range of felony offenses.” <- Study with Texas data

But it IS in fact news right? Is it still not worth reporting? I mean, these people really were arrested, should we just not care? I mean, I like to consider myself independent and neutral in politics (although I do lean more Right, I am registered as independent) but even I think this is news worth knowing. Here’s a direct link to the incident:

“Migrants with criminal convictions encountered by El Paso Sector agents include aggravated felons such as sex offenders, child predators and drug traffickers. Additional offenses include illegal possession of firearms, assault, domestic violence, and burglary. Some of the migrants encountered have gang or Mexican Drug Cartel affiliations.”

It’s not news that you take a group of <x number of> people, there are going to be a subset of <x> who are criminals. Migrants, according to data, are better neighbors and citizens. But Fox selectively culls it’s reports to enforce right wing hysteria. If Fox reporting were being honest, in spirit if not letter, it would also make sure that it’s viewers knew that these immigrants, as a group, are more trustworthy and honest than the viewer’s neighbors.

Criminals arrested at the border happens hundreds of times per week, every week. Fox “news” reports about those with racial stereotypes fitting whichever agenda they are currently pushing.

There’s nothing newsworthy about a bunch of arrests other than simping to a deadbeat audience.

Breaking News: border checkpoint doing its job, normal number of criminals encountered.

Fox News: look at these cherry-picked criminals with cartel associations apprehended at the border. Take a moment to let the worry and fear rise up in you, then watch our next segment, an opinion piece where someone will make allusions to the great replacement theory and falsely claim that the Democratic party wants open borders.

Joking aside, progressives are aware that criminals exist and that some of them are crossing country borders. The critical part is whether one looks at the big whole through statistics, or whether one lets themselves be rabble-roused into irrational fear and hatred of foreigners.

Let’s say my name was Mupert Rurdoch and I was running an anti-conservative news channel. Currently, murders per capita (per 1 million people) are around 70, so a population of 300 million people commits about 21000 murders per year. I could cherry-pick murders committed in red state, rural areas and make them my headline every few days. Then smoothly blend into opinion segments where the hosts talk about a “murder epidemic amongst conservatives” and mentions militias executing people and so on.

Arresting criminals when they cross the border and are therefore back in our jurisdiction is a feature, not a big. Getting extradition, even from a relatively friendly country like Mexico, is more difficult than just hanging out at the border and catching them as soon as they come into the trap.
