I think Apple Watch should have a “I’m sick” feature. It should then display notifications like “today you burned only 200 active kcal, good job! Keep it down and you’ll be healthy in no time!”. Or reminders to stay hydrated.

It just feels stupid when I spend whole day in bed feeling like shit and then the Watch sends me a friendly reminder it’s not too late to close my rings.

Not to mention this “stay on the move” culture starts to get ridiculous.

What other notifications would you see in this mode? Doctors appointments? Reminders to sleep more?

I know it is possible to disable those notifications, I know you can do a lot with shortcuts and focus as well. My point was an option to present different notifications to keep you motivated to stay in bed and heal.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I’m sick I feel like I should be doing something productive and such notifications would be helpful to stop feeling guilty for being sick.

You really over here letting a damn watch make you feel guilty for being sick and rightfully lazy?

This has very little to do with the watch in my opinion. 😅

I’d also go for an ‘I’m injured’ setting.

But you can adjust your rings for days like that.

Or, ignore the rings. You run the watch, the watch doesn’t run you. If you feel like keeping a streak going is somehow a motivating feature, crank it down to 200 yourself for the day(s) then back to whatever your normal goal is once you feel better.

You can disable all those notifications now if you don’t want it. I have disabled all of them except for the Stand one.

You can turn off those notifications and even create a “Sick” focus if you want.

Further, you can adjust your goals when you’re sick and even think of them as “Do not exceed” goals.

What Apple shouldn’t do is have the same metric for achievement be used to indicate when you haven’t achieved something. In other words, if you sprain an ankle, it should still show that you were unable to do X number of steps, not reward you for doing a good number of steps for someone with a sprained ankle.

People here all the time seem to think having an excuse is the same as actual performance. It isn’t. It may be the reason the goal wasn’t achieved, but it’s worth having a record of what you’re actually doing instead of mixing excuses with the metrics.

If there was a sick mode, id love to get reminders every other hour to drink some water and reminders to log any painkillers to ensure i dont overdose/overlap in the hazy delirium of fevertown
