My cardiologist suggested that I get an apple watch to monitor my heart rate since I have an arrhythmia. I wanted to ask what model would be best/ would suffice for heart rate monitoring/fitness.
I am a medical doctor living a relatively sedentary lifestyle and is not very keen on any added features that would add to my anxiety like notifications popping up. My forearms are pretty slim and would prefer a watch that isn’t too big as well.
Your help would be much appreciated.
S6 and higher has 3rd gen HR monitor. That’s I think the answer you’re searching for. Unsure which SE has the same sensor
Series 6,7,8, and 9 in theory all the same heart sensor, not sure of the processor makes much difference in the heart monitoring functions, but if it does go for the 9, otherwise, get the cheapest you can find out of the series 6-8. The ultra’s would be as good as well. One thing to keep in mind the watch band matters, finding the right fit will help keep the heart rate monitor accurate, so find a band that fits well.
Im not an expert but I don’t think the ecg improves as the models and chips do. If budget is no issue buy the watch you want. If you want to keep price down the 7 or 8 have good sales and will do what you need. I just purchased a stainless steel 7 about 6 months ago on sale and would rather that than an aluminum 9 series. PS I have been using the ecg on mine as per cardiologists recommendation for 3 years now starting with the 6 series.
My S7 coupled with iPhone 13 Pro max Detected and recorded my Afib event which occurred a month earlier.
Series 9 41mm. The ECG features, the afib features (and settings), the pulse ox features. All great.
The SE doesn’t have ECG. If you need that, then a series 9 (or one of the older ones, they got ECG from series 4, but don’t go that old). If you don’t, get the current SE.
I’d say Ultra 1/2. It has a bigger battery and will last about 3 days if you don’t do anything. I charge it during shower and that will give you enough battery to monitor heart rate 24/7(If that’s what you are looking for). But then, other non-apple fit band should have longer battery life than Ultra
Just get the older Series 7. Its way cheaper and enough. In 41mm
I would absolutely recommend the Series 9. Not bulky at all especially at the 41mm model. I wear it nearly all the time, even with sleep for HRV monitoring. It’s spot on.
Series 8 or 9 should work well for you
Series 9, 41mm (there’s no diff in battery life between 41 and 44mm.) As for anxiety-producing notifications, they are easily turned off and/or customized. Me, I recommend getting cellular as well, for the occasional call and being able to leave your phone behind for errands and walks, etc. They are great.
I was also contemplating between cellular vs non-cellular. Despite the cellular’s obvious perks, I was wondering how much higher the EMF emitted with cellular would be compared to the GPS-only. And given that I would probably be wearing this 24/7, would the radiation be equivalent to sleeping with a phone strapped to your body? Though it is still too early to have any prospective studies on symptoms or risks of malignancy developing in the long term, I would like to know what avid users like you think.
This is not a thing I worry about, as my understanding is that the risk is negligible, if it exists at all.
NOT the Ultra, which for many is problematic for HR monitoring (myself included)
