“Your voice, your perspective, your experience,” replied the Vice President. She continued, “your words, your breath, your opinion.” After a brief, awkward silence she went on, “Your analysis. Your education, your mind, your thoughts, your description. Your prose. Your story. Your creativity. Is it hot in here?” the Vice President asked the room.
VP Harris proceeded to drink a full water bottle without pausing and asked her aid for another. Once she had opened and drank most of the next bottle the Vice President asked, “Where was I?”
This marked the end of the VP Harris’ scheduled appearance, as students began filing into the room for their regularly scheduled Political Science class.
"I’m glad you did,” Harris said in response. “And again this is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth should not be suppressed and it must be heard, right? And one of the things that we’re fighting for in a democracy, right, a democracy is its strongest when everybody participates…”
She added soon after: “The point that you are making about policy that relates to Middle East policy, foreign policy, we still have healthy debates in our country about what is the right path, and nobody’s voice should be suppressed on that.”
God this is such a good example of how insufferable mainstream political discussion is. “Israel is genociding people.” Reponse: “Everybody has a voice about the right paths in life and no one’s voice should be suppressed. Next Question.”
The voices defending and advocating for genocide should be suppressed actually.
Free speech has proven to be an abject failure, and isn’t even real in the first place if you do any speech that actually harms the interests of the empire. There’s a reason we call the CIA award for excellence in journalism 2 bullets in the back of the head or a stay in a blacksite for the rest of your life.
That is truly the shape of our democracy.

It’s a bit, but the real thing is almost as bad:
Harris could have just said “ok yeah anyways” and it would have meant the same thing
I would respect her more if she just said shut up
She still fired a staffer over it.

Spoke an essay but said nothing at all
Avoided like a true politician
