I’ve started seeing various stories of people in the media speaking out in support of Palestine and being swiftly fired. I’m very curious if the current state of propaganda is going to increase the chance of people working in non-public facing jobs of also being fired and branded anti-Semitic. I’m scared of this coming up in the workplace because I don’t think I’d be able to keep my mouth shut and I could absolutely see certain people starting shit.
Outside of no-cause firing being legal, USA has a bunch of cooked laws suppressing criticism of israel. I would be just as careful as talking about unions as talking about israel in the workplace. watch out for snitches and bosses. test the water first.
i know hypocrisy is a dead meme but folks where you at?
I mean if you look at the organizations opposed to Anti-BDS laws a few of them are free speech orgs like the ACLU.
But yeah the lords in the reddit sense probably don’t care lol
I could also see someone being fired with cause because they were reported to HR for being anti-semitic.
I’d tread very carefully and I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze. You’re unlikely to change any minds in the workplace.
My main coworker who I interact with the most is a half Chinese half Palestinian leftist so it’s pretty rare for us not to be shouting about Zionist or Westerners getting what they deserve.
I will be back in Johannesburg soon enough and no longer have to conceal being on the right side of history anymore.
It is against the law in some states to criticize Israel. I am not making this up. It is a fireable offense.

I was awarded a project at a VA hospital and the contract had explicit language that any parties involved are not to participate or endorse any BDS action against Israel.
Probably very high. I overheard some boxes of saltine crackers talking about it in Estonian, with the usual Redditbrain talking points (minus the overt pro-apartheid) coping about how Hamas is solely at fault, sabotaged a peace deal, war crime, etc.
Of course I can’t say anything because I’m this one guy from South Africa who constantly wears a keffiyeh and is capable of material/historic analysis. Hell, HR already looks at me with suspicion for “harbouring anti-NATO views”.
:estonia-cool:
Didn’t expect to see an Estonian comrade on here. Estonians are actually next-level NATO/state dept bootlickers.
some boxes of saltine crackers
I would like to know more about this insult, it’s very funny to me for some reason.
It’s basically a more advanced form of “cracker”, I just came up with this on the spot some time ago.
Like calling someone a “tool”. And then there’s calling someone a “toolbox”, a step up.
It’s a salty cracker

I mean, its Estonia lol
why the fuck are estonia even in Nato. What do they bring except liability
There was someone who posted asking for Estonian Marxist perspectives at one point, maybe you should check that thread out
i wouldnt be surprised if this is happening. Personally I’m going to keep my mouth shut in places where i’m not anonymous because losing my job right now would be pretty bad.
People have short emotional memory with this stuff. This is how it was with Ukraine in 2022 you were the most toxic person in the room if you said anything bad about Ukraine. Now something like(give or take?) 46 percent of democrats oppose sending weapons to Ukraine.
We’re in an extreme flashpoint; wait for the war to normalize in people’s heads and use this time to monitor the situation; read up on history and have your takes ready for the future. People are going to be freaking out for awhile now in a flashpoint like this.
If you’re worried about this you should be unionizing
Some states have anti BDS laws that they require unionized, state employees to sign
state unions are the most defanged kind of union tho
and its kinda their fault for letting it happen
Complacency is corrosive
Anti-union laws in Texas… death to America… :wail:
Because we’re unionized…
Our work place had a free Palestine rally.
It’s illegal in 35/50 US states lol unions ain’t stopping that
No, they do actually stop that
Id be fired as fuck lmao theres pro israel shit all over the slack channels and whatnot.
We also have business ties and people in ukraine
Death to amerikkka

High, and honestly unless you are a high profile politician or journalist, would you really achieve anything arguing with your libs coworkers eager to rat you so you stop talking about unionizing?
Yes, I know the Mao quote, don’t need to repeat me I’m a liberal
I understand the point of the Mao quote but I’m gonna be honest my social life has drastically improved since I stopped being so “zealous”
i_live_in_an_overturned_T34.txt
Different strategies for how to convince people, annoying them at first glance doesn’t make them want to listening to you
The mao quote makes a lot more sense in the context of the cultural revolution and a new socialist country
Depends where you live. Amerikkka it’s probably not a safe bet to talk about this stuff openly. 35/50 US states have “anti-bds” laws meaning you can be fired for protesting Israel, even cooler you can’t be hired as a state employee if you protest Israel. Muh first amendment tho
I would just limit myself to stick with fact.
From 2000-2022, The death toll for the conflict was ~10.5k Palestinians vs ~1k Isrealis. https://israelpalestinetimeline.org/charts/
Considering this fact, it is not surprising some Palestinians are willing to go to extreme measures to get revenge.
Thing is this won’t work on most people. They’ll see those numbers and be like “well they’re terrorists, and also Hamas uses human shields.” They will always find a way to justify Israel.
“Damn, Hamas must be pretty dumb then, continuing to use that tactic, even after the IDF has repeatedly demonstrated willingness to shoot through them without hesitation.”
Parenti quote them
Which one?
During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence. If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime’s atheistic ideology. If the workers went on strike (as happened on infrequent occasions), this was evidence of their alienation from the collectivist system; if they didn’t go on strike, this was because they were intimidated and lacked freedom. A scarcity of consumer goods demonstrated the failure of the economic system; an improvement in consumer supplies meant only that the leaders were attempting to placate a restive population and so maintain a firmer hold over them. If communists in the United States played an important role struggling for the rights of workers, the poor, African-Americans, women, and others, this was only their guileful way of gathering support among disfranchised groups and gaining power for themselves. How one gained power by fighting for the rights of powerless groups was never explained. What we are dealing with is a nonfalsifiable orthodoxy, so assiduously marketed by the ruling interests that it affected people across the entire political spectrum.
The “nonfalsifiable orthodoxy” bit in particular. Point out to them that they (and the media they read) are “transform[ing] any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence.”
Maybe not, people can only see the truth of the matter if they want to. If their worldview requires it to be a conflict of good vs evil, than they probably will ignore it to perserve their worldview.
well they’re terrorists, and also Hamas uses human shields.
My reply would be that they are also people who see themselves as in a shitty situation.
They will always find a way to justify Israel.
That is very likely true, but you don’t know until you actually bring up the issue with them.
Considering this fact, it is not surprising some Palestinians are willing to go to extreme measures to get revenge.
Or perhaps that they are exceedingly desperate to gain ground

Just quote Jose Mourinho and refuse to elaborate or answer any following questions
If I speak I am in trouble?
yesterday my dad called and brought up the current situation in palestine - not to talk about palestine, but specifically to tell me not to mention it (or any of my beliefs) at my new job. shits fucked.
This is 100% something my dad would do. I’m surprised he hasn’t tbh
