You can export a full record of any loans you’ve ever taken out, your balance over time, and any forgiveness you’ve received. Do this for any interactions you’ve had with the federal government. Make sure you have copies of your old tax returns as well. The federal government can no longer be considered a reliable steward of official records.
Your student loan balance is unlikely to go “poof,” but any forgiveness you received or past payments just might.
