I even thought to myself before hand “he’s not east asian I’m not east asian it’s gonna be weird if I do this” but habits die hard even if they’re quickly learned

Here most people don’t bother handing you money, I’ll have my hand outstretched to take it & they just toss it on the counter in my general direction. Every time it feels so disrespectful, like they don’t want to sully themselves by handing me the money directly.

I understand that, but when I’m already reaching out to take their money & they toss a couple bills on the counter I can’t help but feel like it’s deliberate.

If they’re just tossing it while your hand is outstretched, it’s disrespectful and outright aggressive.

So respond to them in kind: waste their fucking time as much as possible, since you can’t actually throw hands or verbally harass or spit on their face (I’m assuming you’re at work). Drag the interaction out as much as you can, make them feel as uncomfortable and inconvenienced as possible. And at the end when they just leave, passively aggressively, in a kind voice, call them out in ways that aren’t so explicit.

I lived in a country that did the two hands thing and it was almost impossible to stop when I moved back to the US. It’s been decades now and I still do it sometimes.

I like to use two hands all the time, if someone gets mad that I’m showing respect then they’re probably some chauvinist piece of shit anyway

I knew you were talking about the continent with sane people line and it really bothered me because people in my original home country, America, people very much have a sentiment that “people are the same everywhere” and it’s very much not true. People in imperialistic nations or very religious places often share certain traits that I find revolting, but these traits aren’t universal and you don’t have to venture far outside the imperial core to find what I call “normal” people (for lack of a better word, not normal in the sense of “embodying the values of anglo-normans”)
