Battle Bit is pretty popular right now.
I was coming here to say this. They have sold 1.8 million copies in a week. 64k active players right now.
Developed by 3 guys. The graphics are intentionally low poly but the shooter is deep with well modeled weapons, drivable/flyable vehicles, well designed maps, and a nearly full destructible world.
It’s kinda incredible tbh. It has almost all of the mechanics I’d want from all of the Battlefield games rolled right into one robloxy looking package. 10/10 can’t reccomend highly enough.
Actually would want to see more rough diamonds than polished turds. If more time was focused on the idea rather than the execution of graphics we would potentially see more unique games
I mean, for a while now I’m not even sure you could call those turds polished…
Yeah. A lot of my favorite games have been the ones that don’t overstay their welcome. A few that come to mind are Portal, subnautica, a hat in time, and celeste.
Highly recommend everyone that likes Portal to try speedrunning it. It’s pretty short, especially if you have practiced chamber 16/17/18. You can beat the whole game in 1-2 hours, but it will go down to more like 40 minutes without glitches if you have the solutions memorized.
Then you can save like 15-20 more minutes by learning a few really easy glitches. There’s tons of tutorials on speedrun.com/portal, too
I-is Portal the gateway drug to speedrunning?
Are you a speedrunning dealer trying to get me hooked on the light stuff?
No that’s super Mario 64.
Or Celeste.
Pshhtt, the hard stuff always seemed more fun to me anyway.
Games as a Service need to stop. The accessibility is great but “seasonal” is just Neverending Development Hell for the poor fellows. They’re just GaaS-ing us.
I want more games like Mark of the Ninja, Hollow Knight, or the Armored Core series.
Games where there is always engagement without running around in a dead map for 5 minutes to a checkpoint.
That being said, super hyped for AC6 coming next month!
Funny you should say that. I’ve been playing Death Stranding and all I’ve been doing is walking around doing not much. I’m loving it though haha. I’m starting to realize that I value the atmosphere and story of a game much more than anything else.
Fair call. I’ve enjoyed my fair share of these games too. i.e. horizon, cp2077 (after the fixes), og assassin’s creed. But for me they don’t hold a candle to the games I’ve mentioned in the original post. They are pretty though.
Have you tried Dead Cells or Hades? Both are wildly popular and you will have constant action start to finish. They are rogue-likes/lites, so if your not into that, be warned. Hades does have a progressing story though which is amazing!
They’re on my ever growing “to play” list
I dunno, I distinctly remember spending several hours in AC4A screaming “WHERE THE FUCK IS NOBLESSE OBLIGE HIDING?!”
10/10 game though.
Just give everyone the time they need to create a complete product. Some of the greatest masterpieces take the longest time to develop. I don’t want games that are rushed to launch all buggy and finally get into a working state after months of fixes.
I really don’t think that’s possible with some of these team sizes. When games post screenshots that their script is 12,000 pages long, it gets to the point where no one person can conceive the overall game.
I mean, the far cry games clearly have a jumping puzzle dev team. It’s just so much bloat.
Nintendo hasn’t been flawless, but they’re the prime example that just selling a really good product is enough to make it. They have live services and mobile games, but I’ve spoken to people. Pokemon Legends Arceus and Zelda have sold a metric fuck ton of switches. Even Mario Odyssey is a great example of this. Sony also seems to kind of understand this, with really great single player games. Games as a service seems to be the entire Xbox brand right now with gamepass
If only their legal department could be as much of a shining example.
For sure, their hatred for fan games pisses me off. Nintendo is far from perfect. I was so sad when AM2R got shut down, it was a nearly perfect project. They’ve also gone after certain popular Pokemon ROM hacks like Flora Skies. Most of it has been undeniably shitty.
However I will defend some of their copyright bs. I think it’s reasonable to ban posting footage of certain things in the game as long as it’s made clear. Nintendo games are all about discovery, the shock awe. They were bitches about Super Mario Odyssey ending footage when the game first released and I’m glad they did.
They don’t hate them at all! They just steal their ideas
We are already getting games with every conceivable corner cut.
The real evil is the stock market: once you’re publicly traded you essentially lose control of the company and the product. Your company has the sole primary duty of creating wealth for the shareholders, and anything that gets in the way of that is expendable or offensive.
Normalize private companies making games again (Valve where you at man).
But what about the value generated?
Give me about 5 years. I’m going solo, and just now learning how much I have to know, but I have concept art and music, so I’m making progress.
I can put art and music in a game engine, lfg
Good luck my friend! I started down the path and realized how much work it would be then stopped. Maybe one day I will try again.
I just wanna work less 😭 they even make me get up early sometimes to code some crap. It’s a sin, I say!
😎
Battlebit is just $15 on Steam and has a great amount of content, quality servers, and old school Battlefield-style gameplay. Super low spec graphics. Can really recommend it to folks looking for the above
I keep hearing that. I wonder if it works on steam deck. I haven’t had a good multiplayer title in a long time.
Battlebit is moving to some of the most anti-consumer anticheat software around and completely ignoring every complaint from players about it.
Claps hands
Finally!
well I don’t want shorter games but otherwise yes worse graphics by people who work less and are paid more pls
