Right! KOed party members will not gain exp from a fight, even if they did 99% of the damage. Try not to let the same party member repeatedly get KOed (or revive them before the fight ends, if you have the means) to prevent their development from being stunted.
IIRC, experience won from a fight gets divided among the surviving party members, so this will exacerbate the difference in levels, particularly when you have two party members and the stronger one repeatedly gets “double” points and the weaker, deader one gets zero.
