Can anyone point me to some good sources for non-state socialsm? I don’t see how you would protect the society from non-socialist individuals without a state

I think of non-state socialism as anarchism or syndicalism. Unless they mean post state socialism… but that’s just communism

I’m personally a fan of Bookchin social ecology, also because is something that we can experiment immediately instead of wishing for a revolution that will create a “good” dictatorship and just hope that the new authoritarian state will give up its power so easily, but there are a lot of other theories if you’re interested :)

For Bookchin theory I would suggest his “ The Ecology of Freedom: The Emergence and Dissolution of Hierarchy” and any work on the experimentation of democratic confederalism by Kurdish, there is a quite famous Italian cartoonist, Zerocalcare, that made a docu-comic called “Kobane Calling”, if you want something more detailed there are the writings of Abdullah Ocalan

Honestly asking though - how do we get to a stateless society without a transitory state?

So much focus on fASciM but tankies get so much free pass in the western mind. It is weird, ask any one who had to suffer communism.

Their response, If I dIdZ iT WoUlDs Be ReAlz PaRaDisE… said a middle aged dude typing from his suburban home

Not that tthis comment is not meant to minimize abuses of the current world older. They are just smarter, why kill a slave when you can first extract value out of them. It is indeed a better model for exploitation. A good parasite knows not to kill the host until ALL of the value is extracted.

Ask anyone? Or just anyone who immigrated to the west? There’s a lot of selection bias inherent in the people who most westerners talk to about state socialism.

there are a lot of people living in post-warsaw pact countries who still know damn well the toll of that system. sure, some are dejected by current progress and romanticize the good old thing from nearly 35 years ago, but don’t pretend that the fall of the berlin wall wasn’t celebrated on both sides of the wall. it’s mostly the tankies who want the old thing back because they feel like it would let them oppress all the undesirables and provide them with tasty boots to lick.

and you can absolutely still feel the difference between a country that used to be in the eastern bloc vs one that used to be in the western one, even 34 years later.

The fall of the Berlin Wall and the replacement of a socialist government with a capitalist one are different events.

My point being primarily that support or opposition to state socialism in formerly (or presently) communist countries is not universal and not of a single character. Just like everyone who was cheering for the Berlin Wall to come down was not cheering for corporate domination or microplastics in their blood, not everyone who wants a return to state socialism is cheering for the Stasi or the NKVD to come back.
